Compass Radio was granted a construction permit.
Move to: Mount Soledad from North County.
Increase power to 32kw; more than double than it is now. No time table.
Authorized on 3 March.

Stay Tuned

It's amazing how well this SD rimshot station comes in at Zuma Beach, even without the power boost. For some reason it is among the 4 or 5 most-reliable FM signals in western Malibu.

The TJ sticks, KPBS and KPRI seem to be the best signals here, when the salt water coax is up. KOLA and the IE signals come in, too. When it's down, about 30 percent of the time, the LA stations come in via knife edge better.

And you know what's really weird? For about 500 feet of PCH just west of Carbon Canyon, SD and LA are blocked completely and SLO/Central Coast stations appear on frequencies like 89.3 and 97.1.

I've noticed the majority of SD signals show up strongly
west of Goleta along the 101...until it veers north into the
mountains: nice line-of-site path across the water.

Cool. Wonder if KGB will complain about such short-spacing between the 101.5 and 102.1 transmitters.

Why not? They did it before.
IN fact, that's what suprises me! Last time when they just wanted to move the transmitter a little closer (back in the old Rock 102.1 days, when DSC will still there), that's exactly what KGB did! Now they want to move to Soledad?
What's that SDRadio likes to say?
Stay uhmmm.... Oh yeah, STAY TUNED!

That would not be considered short spacing 600mhz

Well, there goes my clear reception of La Nueva 101.9 from L.A. if and when 102.1 moves to Mt. Soledad. Adios KSCA.
Two radio station transmitters each more than 30kw spaced about ten miles apart broadcasting 0.6MHz from each other sounds like a rarity in radio.  Are there any other precedents of radio stations having another major wattage local station stepping 0.6MHz from each other?

There is no short spacing to KGB, which is adjacent and next adjacent... the spacing issyue was with 102.5 in Tijuana. The FCC and the SCT reached an agreement to allow grater power on 102.5 and the 102.1 move, and, also, allowing KLQV to go non-directional.

Just out of curiosity, how will making 102.9's signal non-direction improve it's signal? Or far that matter, what good does it do for 102.9 at all?
Just curious...
