I believe the operative words here are: "It will be interesting to see if."
As I mentioned Thom gets a better share in Seattle than Franken.  And Thom is up against Dave Ross on KIRO, the guy who does commentaries for both AP Radio and CBS Radio, is the regular sub for Charles Osgood, and was a Democratic candidate for congress in the last election (won the primary, lost the general election).  Hartmann is also up against "The Commentators," which has a liberal host paired with a conservative."  Franken is up against personality talkers Ron and Don on KIRO, whom I would not consider direct competition for the progressive talk audience, and the conservative host from "The Commentators."

No, the operative words were:  ..."look for more stations to dump...Al in favor of Thom."

And if you're going by the numbers that Hartmann posted on his web site, he wasn't against Dave Ross during that period -- Ross was in PM drive against Franken, who beat both fellow liberal Ross and conservative Michael Savage (Notice the asterisk after Dave Ross's name).

Why is it that every time a liberal gets upset with soemthing they have to protest, or sign some worthless petition???

If you are going to inject politics into this, at least put your room key at Hypocracy Hotel in your pocket, because now everyone knows where you are staying.

Here is none other then Droby's QUOTE from HuffPo:

This is all very nice, except it has nothing to do with what I was calling you on, which was your hypocritical comments that it is liberals that do all the protesting and petition signing.  What you are on about has absolutely nothing to do with what I am talking about.

Next time, try to stay on the same page before you hit reply.

The interesting question that Doc and Damp can't answer is why is AAR' website still has Mullah Malloy listed in their lineup?  Is it true that cash crunch probs are so severe that they can't pay someone to edit a couple of HTML lines..

Who cares.

This was extremely unprofessional of Air America, firing a host half an hour before airtime (filling in for Randi Rhodes), and not giving him a chance to say goodbye.

I know this is not the same thing: but here's what happens when you let disgruntled people on the mic. It's priceless, but if you were to 'give' Malloy 2 weeks to say 'goodbye' , he would have have donse something similar to this:  Cool

...the hell he would. He had (IIRC) three months' advance notice of the folding of the i.e.America network, and he wound up being the last show heard over it. He was ticked off at the technical and financial incompetence of the UAW in their mishandling of the outfit, but so were those of us listening, and he was no more vocal about it than the callers were...

And you KNOW he would have something "similar" how?
C'mon, let it go.
He might have; he might not have.
Now we will never know.
Apparently, anybody who works for you can expect the kind of ugly termination which is all to common in radio.
Apparently, you think radio is right to treat people as it does.
Radio is the most mismanaged industry I can think of.
It is run by drones, who were shat upon earlier in their careers, and now feel entitled to do the same to others.
This is the primary qualification for a management position in radio (MBA?  Whasat?)

Franco remains dead.
Malloy remains fired.
Five more days until what would have been his last show anyway.
No word on what happens with the time slot.
Meantime, stations, for information on how you can carry Lionel, call WOR Networks affiliate relations:

'Radio' is absolutely right in taking disgruntled talent off the air. What do you think 'radio management' should do? Let 'Inetta tha Moodsetter' have 2 weeks to call her co workers and employers names? Give Malloy a 2 week head start in insulting AAR management ( I cant believe I'm actually defending that bunch ) behind thier microphone, instead of on his website and Huffpo?

You need to 'let it go'. If you want to work in radio, it's part of the gig. When celebrities complain about 'no privacy', that's also part of the gig. You learn to live with it. Or, most adults do Roll Eyes

Are you going to keep this thread going until everybody agrees with you?
You've said you're piece.
OK, radio often does operate that way.  Not everyone thinks it should.
Radio does often operate that way even when the talent has given no cause for them to expect irresponsible behavior.
Apparently you think people who get shabby treatment should smile and say "thank you, sir, may I have another."
You seem to make Malloy wrong for being "disgruntled" (resenting how he was treated).
I can't believe you are defending this kind of treatment of employees.
I can't believe you are defending SOBs acting like SOBs.
I can't believe you are finding somebody guilty of bad behavior based on something he might or might not have done.
I can't believe how you cowtow to management (or authority figures, in general).
I can't wait to see how you react if management ever screws you (and you become disgruntled).
It's part of the gig because there are so many authoritarian personalities in radio.  They go beyond those who put up with ill treatment just to be on the radio; they are people who endorse ill treatment.
Which is what you are doing.
Sig heil.

This thread is too focused on "how" rather than "why" Malloy was canned.  We know that AAR is very reluctant to let anyone go.  Does anybody even remember Liz Winstead?  Why did they decide to go after Malloy with his large following of late night listeners.  Many who've been listening to him since his stint at IE America.  I suspect that he had crossed the line where liberals are not supposed to go.  It's one thing to suggest that 2000 or 2004 election was stolen by the Republicans, but when you start suggesting that Bush had something to do with 9/11 attacks and you give over two hours to a Lyndon Larouche advocate you are crossing the line.  I suspect that this why Malloy was let go.

That may be the reason, but there was no "Lyndon Larouche advocate."  The guy he had on was a "former" Larouche associate, who had broken with Larouche some time ago.

As for what "they" did two years ago, there's a whole new crop of suits in charge at AAR, so the "they" now is far different than the "they" was in 2004.

Meanwhile, despite Mike Malloy's assertion that Laura Flanders will be his permanent replacement, nobody seems to have told Flanders.  Here's what her producer posted on the Flanders blog last night:

I must restate this: We are not replacing Mike Malloy. We were as shocked as anyone Malloy was pulled from the AAR line-up. We're kindred spirits. We have not been told anything by AAR management about moving to weekdays, in general, or about replacing Malloy specifically. We've been told that we're on the weekend.
