NOBODY knows the following like Rush knows it: IT'S A SHOW.

What-he-does on-air is LOTS-less-about how-he-feels than it is about ratings.
Few know how-to-play-that-game better.
Rush says-what-he-says because saying-so works.
Rush, an ex-DJ, understands something that talk-hosts-who-were-once-DJs-know:
How to work Arbitron's clock.
He's "playing the hits."
Average Quarter Hour radio.

This is so true. I detest Rush Limbaugh, but try to listen to him several times during the week to hear what he is talking about.  It seems whenever I tune in he's right on topic.  Like today he was singing the praises of ABC's docufraud on 9/11.

Is that anything like the document fraud Dan Rather and CBS participated in before the 2004 election?

Sorry, just had to get that in there Cheesy

<< I detest Rush Limbaugh, but try to listen to him several times during the week to hear what he is talking about. >>

BACK WHEN RUSH WAS THE NEW THING:
I, personally, disagreed with most-of-what-he-said.
But was hugely entertained by-the-way-he-said-it.

LATELY:
It's the opposite.
I, personally, can buy-into more of what-he's-saying.
But I find the-way-he-says-it tough to take.

And that's something that I'm hearing more from listeners.
Repetition seems to be part of the problem when his horizontal maintenance is off, and we probe why.
Focus group participants mock his repetitive shtick, i.e., "half my brain tied behind my back."
Rush seems to miscalculate when listeners understand that he's tongue-in-cheek.

And -- in the conservative heartland, and church-going South -- "talent on loan from God" sometimes offends.

It's noteworthy when different listeners in different places feed back the same comments.
A couple times lately, I've heard listeners mock the sissified way Rush pronounces "issues."

And BY FAR the most common beef I hear is how it's ALWAYS ALL ABOUT HIM.

As I said above, I'd rather be the affiliate than the competitor.
But it's a shame when style obscures substance.

I believe that was his point, yes Grin

Well, far-right Michael Savage is no fan of Rush--calls him Hush Bimbo and claims he's a sellout and
not a real conservative. /

I wouldn't necessarily call SAVAGE a far-right winger. I don't listen every night, but the times I have, he seems to be a more cosmopolitan type host. He doesn't dwell on right-wing politics as much. Of course, he has his opinions and his moments that might be called right-wing, but in no way can you say he toes the line with Bush, especially on the Iraq war.

He's also anti-outsourcing of jobs and other things that go well with others such as CNN's LOU DOBBS.

Savage's show is interesting to hear. It's not what you'd always expect to hear in a conservative radio show.

Now, tune in to Rush and Sean and you will find that predictable and boring "liberals are evil" tripe.

This isn't the appropriate venue to discuss whether Michael Savage is correct or incorrect in his views. But, I don't think anyone can deny that Savage's opinions are not only on the right, they are on the extremely far right. Savage is much farther to the right than most other conservative talk hosts.

in no way can you say he toes the line with Bush

Exactly. To Savage's world view, President Bush isn't conservative enough. Savage is several steps further to the right than the President.

tune in to Rush and Sean and you will find that predictable and boring "liberals are evil" tripe.

That's also a valid observation. But, it's an observation of their style more than their content. Most news/talk hosts pain the world in shades of "us" and "them". That's part of the schtick. Savage differs from the other in that his diatribes against the left are even stronger. "Diaper Dopers" is hardly an intellectual accolade for those he disagrees with.

When he started out on WABC and in national syndication, Rush was more of a "paleoconservative" (Buchannan Republican) and somewhat critical of the neocons, the party establishment and Daddy Bush (although he loved Ronnie).  Then Daddy Bush let him spend the night in the Lincoln Bedroom and Rush sold out to the RNC.  Now he is a neocon-RNC-Bush shill.
Populist conservatives don't trust Bush and the corporate (Federalist-Whig) Republicans; never have and never will.
