This is just freaking ridiculous!  It's going on nearly a week already and not even a suitable update as to their status outside of a vague "it'll be fixed when it's fixed" message on their website.  Somebody dropped the ball on this big time and I hope whoever is responsible will be hung out to dry after all this is said and done.  There's no reason for bad customer service like this.

Channel 57 broadcast antenna out of service

The broadcast antenna of Channel 57 (CW Philly) has been out of service since Saturday afternoon, affecting the 8 percent of the region's television market that relies on an antenna for reception, spokeswoman Joanne Calabria said.

Comcast, the region's largest cable provider, gets the station's signal through fiber-optic cable.

Channel 57 is getting their signal to DirecTv now.  It never left Comcast and WPSG-DT never went down.  Does Julius not have cable?

I have noticed that analog 57 has been off the air.
But off-air HD 57.1 (via antenna) has been on the whole time.
Strange that their old analog signal goes down while HD can keep broadcasting.

Also strange that neither CW57 or CBS3 offer any sub-channels on their HD transmission (neither does Fox 29 for that matter).   CBS3 does not do their news in HD either.  Seems CBS Philadelphia is slow to adopt to HDTV.

I believe that KYW is waiting until their news operations move to their new Spring Garden Street studios to go HD. March is the expected move date.

And as of about 2am (at least thats when i noticed), WPSG is back up and running. Break out your rabbit ears and celebrate.

The station is using a standby antenna. I would contact the station for more info.

Re: Channel 57 WPSG antenna work today (Sunday 01-07-07). Right place at the right time!! Walking out of my local Roxborough supermarket today, I heard a LOUD helicopter, noticing that a lot of people in the parking lot had stopped to look at this sound, I noticed that a HUGE helicopter was hovering over the top of WPSG TV's 1,250 foot tower off of Domino lane. There was a rigger on the top of the tower itself, not having binoculars, I can't tell you what he was doing, only that a short time later, the helicopter landed then returned with something tethered on a long cable beneath the chopper. If they were changing antennas, that is the most impressive display of helicopter flying I have ever seen, true precission. How about a signal report from the fringe areas? Has the signal improved? Chime in ! JMD

Born and raised in Philly, was a teenager during the 80's listening to 98 WCAU FM in town and Boss 97 "Down The Shore". Listened to 93.3 WMMR during the late 80's and 90's, then WDRE, WPLY, WXXM, WXPN, WYSP, WRFF, WMGK , all in Philly at one time or another. Love rock radio diversity. Peace JMD
