I'm surprised this board isn't burning up about the appointment of short-time KPRC talk show host, long time City Council Member Michael Berry being appointed to fill Ken Charles' chair.

What do you make of it?

Maybe CC has thrown in the towel on Houston and the cluster is going to be sold.  We can only hope. Roll Eyes

To say Berry is a stretch at this position is a huge understatement.  Obviously, Martini has has passed brain gas.  A "leader" with no experience could very well "lead" CC's AM stations right off the cliff.  How long will it be before he makes his first bonehead move?

I find it a little insidious and disconcerting any time a politician is placed directly on a special-interest lobby group's payroll.

Let's see... Looking for a program director/station manager in a top market.  Requirements: 2-3 years experience hosting a low rated program for no pay except for the commercials you read. No radio station management experience required.

Perfect! Michael Berry, you're hired!

Makes the rumors for CC unloading the stations look pretty plausible.

Maybe he'll let go of the remaining 3 on the news staff at KTRH and they'll just run national news, Weather Channel weather, Metro traffic and infomercials all day long. Oh wait, it's almost true.

It can't get much worse. I guess they could rehire Ken.

If this is true...then CC Houston passed on hiring one of the top news/talk gm/programmers in Los Angeles.  I'm talking multi major market experience, lots of success, and more than a clue about how to run a news/talk radio station...I did hear they had a ton of applicants.

Who's the market manager that made/approved this hire...?  That's who you guys need to track down and who's feet need to be held to the fire.

I love it. Radio is stale and the last thing it needs is more curmudgeons trying to relive 'how it was'. We are all on the cusp of a new era in media and radio is just a small part of it. Nobody has experience in the new landscape and people who have been mired in radio for a long time are at a distinct disadvantage. I hope there are more moves like this throughout our industry.

Good luck councilman.
