I will bet my bottom dollar that there will be a lot of product placement for GEICO in this series. Think about it: the first pseudo-payola TV series.

The Cavemen ROCK.
However, if they go without a laugh track and do this stupid empty pause crap that the Office and the other new comedies are doing, the thing is doomed.

I've always thought that shows with laugh tracks mean they aren't funny... Grin

Pay up the "bottom dollar". If a GEICO ad appears on the show, it will be a random "best time available" spot. There is no formal connection between the insurance agency and the show. GEICO owner Berkshire Hathaway gets a royalty for the use of the characters. Thats it.

And based on the first clip I saw, the smartness of the spot writers hasnt transformed to the sit com.

6 episodes, tops.

On the contrary...
Laugh track helps make it funny. It is a psychological cue that you aren't the only one in the room laughing. The trouble of course has been that too many bad sitcoms with jokes that were not funny were relying on the laugh track to make it seem like they were funny, when they weren't. But how funny is it when you are watching a standup routine and jokes fall on dead silence?  Those quiet pauses make it really hard to laugh, and its easy to feel like something is missing.

Shows like the Office, My Name is Earl, etc, don't use laugh track but that's because they've invented devices, where the scene is so rediculous, you still have that mental cue. But I dispise this sudden hatred for a studio audience. Not all of us share in this sudden "sit coms are lame" attitude.

from what I hear when TV Guide publishes the 50 worst shows in TV history in the Year 2525 that caveman has already clinched the # 1 spot! beating out My Mother the Car!

Caveman could be a good show if done right but I'm not counting on it after seeing "30 Rock" this year.  That too could have been a good show if it hadn't been done stupid.

30 Rock is hilarious. Seems like some of you have just made up your minds about things without seeing a single episode.
