Uh Oh! Idol controversy on Z93?
« on: May 23, 2007, 09:36:56 PM »

My friend who is in the radio business just informed me that at 7:00PM on his drive home he flipped on Z93.  At that point, he said he heard a morning show promo on Z93 saying We would like to congratulate, and then then Ryan Seacrest announcing "Jordan!" into a microphone.  Could Z get into huge trouble for exposing Fox not having this live?  I could understand if it were 7:00 on the west coast, as it would be 10 here.  Just wondering?

Well it could be that it was taped, though doubtful.  If what you are saying is true, some editing in Audition (or whatever its called now) could generate Ryan announcing the winner before hand.

True story.  I guess somebody told me that when there was a live banner up that meant it was live.  For the last segment when they announced the winner,  the banner was not there.

Very interesting. The Howard Stern news team has been speculating for weeks based on supposed "inside" information that the whole Idol voting system is a fraud.

Not Z93.....this post!

Here's just a wild guess from someone who's made a little radio:

Morning show goes into production to cut the day's morning show promo.  However, in this case, they want to cut two - one for before "Idol" and one for after.  But, with two potential outcomes, two "after" promos are needed, making a total of three.  So they cut a "before" and get it in the system to run up through the show.  Then, they go to work on the two "post" promos, using cut-up audio from previous "Idol" shows in which, say, Ryan excitedly introduced "your 'American Idol' finalists!  Jordin! (music, Jordin walks) Blake! (music, Blake walks) Melinda Dooooolittle!  (music, Melinda walks)  LaKisha!  (music, LaKisha walks)"  And so on.  However, in this case, by cutting out all the other introductions and including the morning show saying "congratulations" to the winner, the promo sounds like it might be very current.

See how easy that is??!   Roll Eyes

Then, an accident happens: somebody either copies that "Jordin wins" promo onto the "before show" number or just plays the wrong one or something.

And, as far as "live" goes, the show was live except for the Gwen Stefani and Green Day performances.

Please, kiddies, end the Bizarro World posts!  Think a little bit!

Besides, Z's inside information has never really been headline type of stuff! And Mallory & Campy aren't exactly the best morning show jocks of all time either! All edited, none of it was officially real. Hell, I could have told you Jordin was going to win. Although, Blake will be the bigger start, but that's another post for another day.

That's exactly what I was saying, though I assumed that if one was posting to a radio related site they would know how easy it is to edit things to say whatever they wanted whenever they wanted...
