Members of the KSFO Listeners Club received personal greetings from Melanie Morgan via email this morning, excerpted here:

Dear {FIRST NAME}

There's nothing I love better than the Fourth of July - the fireworks, the backyard barbecues, the time I spend with my liberal, dysfunctional family members and of course, Marin County's parade, where I get to heckle Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey for her anti-war, anti-troop positions in the swampland that passes for our nation's capitol.

I'm also very enamored of catcalls, hoots of derision and other un-becoming behavior in which I engage towards to the International A.N.S.W.E.R. and Code Pink crowd who show up to try and wreck our patriotic parade with our excited Little Leaguers and their fabulous floats every year.

My husband and son - not so much.

But seriously, I really do get pumped up when I see the American flags flying in the most unlikely of places, Marin County. It reminds me that despite the many differences I have with my neighbors over politics, at least once a year, the Grand Old Flag comes out and we can celebrate together what makes this nation great. ...

I am also thankful that KSFO Radio gives me the opportunity to exercise my Constitutional right of free speech that our forefathers brilliantly included in their efforts to make us a land of opportunity and inclusion.

Don't forget to fly your flag. And take a moment between the festivities, parades, and family re-unions to remember that we are 'One nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

I always picture her licking the bottoms of Cheney's dirty hunting boots.   And liking it.

Melanie Morgan is part of a 13 year history of KSFO Hate Talk Radio.
Melanie is trying to dance to the tune of Free Speech. What she is
doing is not Free Speech, it is  Hate Speech, inciting to riot. This is what she said:
MAY 28, 2007 Show:
MELANIE MORGAN AT 6:18 AM CALLED ROSIE O'DONNELL, " FAT, BLOATED, DISGUSTING, STUPID, ABUSIVE"
AT 6:20 AM MELANIE MORGAN SAID,"LESBIAN ROSIE;  NECK SLIT OPEN, STABBED TO DEATH"
I am in the process of  reporting this to the FCC.

Copies of this letter went to State andd Federal Elected Officials and is posted on www.Congress.org
To:
President George Bush
Rep. Barbara Lee
Sen. Dianne Feinstein
Sen. Barbara Boxer

June 26, 2007

In San Francisco, KSFO Hate Talk Radio has been around for 13 years! I recently heard some outrageous remarks from Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan, and Googled four words: KSFO Hate Talk Radio. There are 39,000 links to KSFO Hate Talk history. What I heard Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan say is worse than what got Imus fired! You will find my Blogs at my site Global Peace Global Healing, now located at www.MySpace.com/Sakanta (Top Right Corner of Page). What they have said is clearly Hate Speech, and Incites to Riot. The FCC needs to investigate and possibly pull their license. I see that the ACLU and the New York Times have been involved in the past. Besides writing Blogs, I am contacting their advertisers, one by one. With only one exception so far, all have been surprised or shocked to find out that they are paying for ads on Hate Talk Radio. I noticed that after calling Trader Joe's and Ford, they no longer advertised. I now have about 20 calls to make. I have been making a list of advertisers over a 3 week period. I learned today Senator Feinstein is looking into the Fairness Doctrine issue. I believe it is important to look into the Hate Talk and Fairness Doctrine issues. Let me know if I can be of additional help. My life work involves Human Rights, Animal Welfare, Conflict Resolution, and Global Peace and Healing.
Regards, Sakanta Running Wolf Bell-Gumaer, MS, Metis.

Sakanta,

Would you mind posting the transcript of Melanie's comments IN CONTEXT instead of very carefully excerpted for maximum shock value?  I am pretty certain that any of us would look pretty bad if we had folks recording our words and then only posting very small, out of context pieces of it.

BTW, as an objective media watchdog, I trust that you lodged a similar complaint following this incident with Air America's Randi Rhodes: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=17878

Now, as to the main topic of this thread, I fail to see the point.  It's a conservative radio station.  Their hosts will send out e-mails that reflect that.

As a liberal myself, I think liberal "watchdogs" throw the term "hate speech" around too much. It bugs me that so many people get upset and froth at the mouth everytime Ann Coulter or Melanie Morgan says something bombastic and controversial. NEWSFLASH - they do it to get attention, and when you respond by giving them attention, they get what they want - publicity.  That translates to higher ratings for Morgan, and more book sales for Coulter.

Here's my analysis, and you can take it or leave it: In the Clinton era, conservative talk radio was a growth industry, and was riding high because their enemy was in power, and they could claim that putting their regime in power would change the country for the better. Their wish was granted in 2000, but then their administration made an unprecedented mess of things.  Now that Bush is so unpopular and discredited, right wing talk hosts have to rachet up the rhetoric to keep their audience, and bring back the listeners that have become disillusioned.

I think the FCC should keep their regulatory mitts off sexual content, dirty words, and free speech, whether it is from the right or the left.

BTW, here is the latest extreme conservative diatribe from the KSFO newsletter:

This is a public service message from KSFO.

The California Independent System Operator (CAISO), charged with
 managing
the electricity grid in California, has issued a Flex Alert for
 Thursday,
July 5th, 2007 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Due to the current hot weather, the demand for electricity is
 approaching
capacity.  As a result, state officials have called a Flex Alert.  It's

urgent that you:

  * Turn off all unnecessary lights
  * If you must use an air conditioner, turn it up to 78 degrees or
 higher
  * Postpone using major appliances until after 7 PM

For updates, please visit http://www.FlexYourPower.org/flexalert/
And thanks for flexing your power.

Double standard:

Liberal counter to conservative position:  "Constructive" or "justifiable criticism"
Conservative counter to liberal position: "Hate speech"

Sorry to the regulars for going off topic...

Sakanta,
There's a knob (on the top or side) or a button (usually labeled Tuner) on any standard radio.
By turning or pushing either one of these, the "Hate Talk" should clear your head like running wolf through a Forest moon.

Topic for another thread, another board, another time:  Shouldn't people also be required to take DE-sensitivity training?
