mid 70s through mid 90s is TWO decades...not three... Yeah, and the 70's, the 80's, and the 90's, were THREE decades.

You haven't paid attention to the latest Houston PPM cume data, have you!
By the cume data posted on this site, it appears that KHJZ and KTHT would both be in for a change as they were far down in the ratings. However, 106.9 and 107.5 were listed as 7 and 8 in the ratings - why would Cox change 106.9 based on these numbers? How about 97.1 flipping to a JACK format and 106.9 going Active Rock? (Hey a man can dream ya know! Actually 106.9 does maybe well in the cumes but I am not sure how their numbers are in the specific demographics now..I have noticed they started adding songs from the LATE 90s recently......(btw COX, mid 70s through mid 90s is TWO decades...not three...are you sure your people can count???) Sure, a man can dream. But look at the signal of 97.1. Sure, it may not have stellar ratings in Houston, but it *does* have a loyal fan base.

Tubby is a great guy to have in the building wherever that building may be.

I agree Tubby has always done a good job at 97.1, but his employer has not always done the best job of programming classic country hits around his "presence".
I'm a huge fan of the very old classic country stars and hits, and 97.1 sounded great for a while when it started, but it quickly fell into a repetitive pattern that just got annoying.
It seemed to me that their idea of Country Legends radio was to play the same 100 or so songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s over and over again. After a while it just got boring to listen to. If I NEVER hear Crystal Gale again it will be too soon.
I also wish they would play more classic country songs from the 40s and 50s. But that's just me.

Continuing the posting I just made:
For my money, the best classic country radio I have EVER heard can be found right now on XM Radio's Willie's Place channel.
That is REAL hard-core down and dirty cry-in-your-beer honky tonk country music from the 1940s and 50s. I don't have XM in my car, but I do have XM at home on my Direct TV satellite. Unfortunately, I can only listen to it when my wife isn't at home. She hates that stuff.
I guess my point is that a broadcast radio programmer who wants to know what "real" classic country sounds like should check out Willie's Place on XM.

I was a huge fan of "Country Legends" when it first signed on. I still am a fan, but it has become very stale. Same voice-overs, same liners, same music. I love Cal Smith's "Country Bumpkin", but I don't want to hear it 7 times a day!
What little money Cox ever put into this station is now gone with the release of Tubby. They spent zero dollars on it and have gotten almost zero results. Instead, they spend all their time and resources with that same idiotic, childish KILT-bashing that they do on KKBQ. Hey Cox, guess what?...... that isn't working either. I for one refuse to listen to that station because of their juvenile antics.
And now, Cox is in the process of tearing up what was once another great radio station in KKYX-AM in San Antonio. KKYX is now "Country Legends 680" and uses the same voice-overs as the Houston station. Only "Cousin" Jerry King remains, although Tino Esquivel may still be there overnights

Smittian, I know what you mean. I would love to hear "THe Lord Knows I'm Drinkin'" by Cal Smith. Little David Wilkins, "Butterbeans" is a good song as well. I wish it was mine. The research handbook would be thrown out the window.
I know. I know. ".....but research says......" I don't give a doodlydamn about your research. I would make that thing cook. But what do I know?

Yep, a decade is 10 years....doesnt matter if the last digit is a zero or not....thus the mid 70s to the mid 90s is TWO, not THREE decades.... Or has everyone forgotten 20years/10 yrs per decade = 2 decades?? (even a 5th grader can handle that
