A wide appeal alternative rocker with potential comin' out the yin yang!
PD Terrie Carr's awesome to work with.  I'm glad to be producing them thru Krash Creative Solutions... anybody in listening range hear a difference?  I'm a huge fan of obscure earcandy imaging & it seems they like that too.  Me so happy!

I'm liking alot about that station lately....breath of fresh air with music selection, especially the new stuff....why isn't KROCK NY going in that direction? My only complaint...can't get them fulltime in Somerset. And I really like the new website...I'm usually forced to listen online....

I agree with the music selection-- open and cool.  They have a grasp on the kind of Alt I like.  Now if I can just get my antenna connected to this nuclear reactor so I can listen from NC....

BTW, in retrospect, it seemed a bit self-serving to infer I am the only dood crankin' out the noise for them & others over this-a-way.  Jus' one of a talented team-- a team which is growing... attention superproducers!   Wink

Long story short: I would like to hear a little less of the early '90s "grunge" bands (good but overplayed) and much less of the cheesy pop boy bands (Fall Out Boy, Sum 41, Plain White T's, newer Green Day - anyone who likes that would be better off turning on Z 100 or Q 102 or WPST or ... you get the idea) and completely serious classic rock revivalists (Velvet Revolver, Puddle Of Mudd, Counting Crows), and a lot more post-punk (Arcade Fire, Kings Of Leon, Bloc Party, Hard-Fi, Spoon, etc.) with maybe a few heavier songs to give the station an extra edge.  I don't see why Velvet Revolver and Puddle Of Mudd are acceptable, and acts like Korn and System Of A Down (with the exception of one song) are not.  The station still has a very soft lean - they play lots of ballads along with acts like Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Counting Crows and others that are arguably more on the AC side of things.  There needs to be a couple of edgier songs to keep the listener from getting bored/falling asleep.

Other than that, the station is good.  I'm happy to see they're playing Against Me!, Editors, HIM, and other acts.  But I would like to see them play more new music, cycle some tracks out that are past their expiration date (I think we've all had enough of the AFI and Modest Mouse singles - time to move on), and throw in some edgier rock to counter the softer bands that they play.  But please, for the love of all that is holy, don't add the new Kid Rock song.  Somehow I get to thinking that it's very likely that they will play it.  After all, they absolutely adore Kid Rock's kindred spirits in Puddle Of Mudd.

The station you want, SoulCrusher was WFNX at one point. They're no longer doing that type of format because their numbers were below Hades. Balance my friend.

Hmmm...I wonder which loathsome aspect I should pick on more: The self-aggrandizement, the arse-kissing, or the grasp of the the language.

Do you think the choice of your operation was budgetary?

Budgetary,, Yeah Right.
TC couldn't get her old Production Director from DHA. Yes, that would be me. and yes, I'm only joking.

Terrie knows what she wants and knows how to go about getting it.  From everything I've read on this board, and from hearing the station a few times, she will give K-Rock a run for their money where the signals overlap. If she thinks this Production company is right for G-Rock,, I trust her judgement,  she knows her "stuff".  I've been doing this a long time and Terrie Carr is one of the best "true" programmers I've ever known.

Hey TC, Peace from DC.

Good observation on WFNX.  While they still seem to play a good selection of new music (Spoon, Tokyo Police Club, and Hard-Fi among acts that G Rock won't touch) the library seems to be leaning toward the soft Adult Alternative sound of stations like Radio 104.5 rather than the eclectic approach featured on stations like Indie and Real Radio 104.1 in Orlando.

As far as G Rock goes, there does seem to be inequity.  The balance is shifted toward the sounds of Seattle and neo-arena rock acts like Puddle Of Mudd and Velvet Revolver (you know, the mainstream MOR rock that is WRAT's bread & butter), the bubblegum pop of Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's, Paramore and Sum 41, and the Adult Alternative sounds of new Silverchair, new Modest Mouse, The Killers, and Counting Crows.  When you count all of this and similar bands, it really doesn't leave much room for post-punk or the edgier acts on the Alternative format - the former is represented but the latter really isn't.  And sometimes you really wish it was there, especially after hearing a procession of songs in the teen pop and Adult categories.  What made FM 106.3 great is that you could hear everything that was Alternative, along with a large selection of currents and a deep library.  G Rock still only plays about 40 Currents and even plays some older tracks more than some of their currents, like Chevelle's "Send The Pain Below".  They're promoting a concert from them on air, but STPB is the only song they play.  What's wrong with the new song, "I Get It"?  Doesn't make sense why they would only play one track from them, and an older one at that.

Finally, G Rock is different in that they seem to take the opposite approach from other Alternative stations.  With the majority, when a song starts to cross over to CHR and AC formats, the station will start to play the song less often.  With G Rock, they seem to play the tracks that cross over more than ever.  Case in point: Finger Eleven's "Paralyzer" and Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah" have been in the playlist for months, but continue to get played constantly.  Just an interesting fact.  I'm all for going against the status quo, but not in this sense.  I would like to see G Rock become more aggressive with moving titles in and out to keep themselves from sounding stale.  And that especially goes for the crossover titles.

Despite the critiques, they're still light years better than the virtually unlistenable K-Rock and the bland and extremely predictable Radio 104.5.

Soulcrusher-You don't give up bands like Puddle of Mudd and Velvet Revolver to The Rat. Period. Some bands you need to share. As for Korn and System of a Down-come on, man. People are at work during the day. Angsty, loud songs bitching about the plight of the Armenian people aren't what most bosses are going to clear for in-office listening. Korn? No romance to them, whatsoever-unless you count songs attacking ex-girlfriends as bitches. Like it or not, songs like "Hey There Delilah" evoke (OH MY GOD) emotions in people, and isn't that what a good song is? You know-melody, hooks, chorus-not cookie monster screaming bands that you seem to want 24-7? Go listen to WSOU if that's what you want. Seriously man, you need help. You want a 1.0 share radio station teenagers love and sales people can't market or sell. G Rock is going for an older demo-people that like The Cult, The Cure, The Smiths, Retro Cuts, and all the '80s stuff they play on the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club. But it's STILL a new music station that plays stuff like Cold War Kids, the afore mentioned Paramore (bubble gum? you're joking right?), Against Me (GREAT SONG), A.F.I. and HIM. It reminds me of the old FM 106.3 in many ways.

GRock has spun Send the Pain Below a grand total of.... ONE time in the past 7 days.  Add in another 7 days, and the spin total skyrockets to TWO SPINS!

At such a blistering pace, the burnout on this track should be instant.

I'm glad to see you're back and resorting to your old ways of extremely exaggerating your observations to try and make people believe you.

Both of those songs have been spun seven times in seven days.  One play a day is completely reasonable to.. you know... a normal listener.
