After they killed sports on XTRA? I'm not buying it...

You couldn't afford it, G-dawg. This move, if true, could out FOX us all. Meanwhile, CCU-SD is moving studios and .....

The 50 kw application is in process, and a long way off. CCU kept the ownership of the KSDO towers (smart move) and that is where the new KXTR ... sorry ... KLSD transmitter location would be. The proposed CP would be directional, mostly to the fishes and dolphins in the Pacific. The rating service must have waterproof markers for them to keep diaries.

 Huh Stay TunedShocked
A flip of KLSD to sports makes absolutely no sense, seeing that KLSD's ratings are pretty decent (save for the last fluke book), and CC has always done lousy with sports in Southern California. It already failed on XETRA, after being on the air for years. KLAC in L.A. gets worse ratings than KTLK with a better signal.

Hmm, why is KLSD begging for listeners on it's website?

I thought Ron Burgundy was a fictional character modeled after someone who worked in Sacramento?

No he was modeled after Harold Green who anchored in San Diego before going to LA. Take a look at this article and photos: http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040704/news_mz1a4anchors.html

This looks pretty pathetic, folks.  I remember pre-bankruptcy AAR when they were starting to give out hats and shopping bags if you made a pledge to help keep AAR on the air.  And that's sad.  As I have always quibbled, if the hosts and programs were more interesting and not all just yadayada freakishly obsessive ranting about President Bush (very rantable), they would not be in the position they are apparently now in.

RE: The Legend of Ron Burgundy: I heard that former KGTV co-anchor Jack White got the last laugh on Harold Green. He was a hired consultant to the movie, and provided a ton of fodder for the writers & producers. White had a real straight forward approach and was always second fiddle to Green back in those days. Going way back as a little kid I recall Sam Rinaker (kind of the Cronkite of San Diego TV) with Al Coupee sports. Coup a former early NFL player once did an editorial that surfing was not a sport, becuase it was filled with hippie degenerates and weed smokers. Hilarious.

CHannel 6 had an interesting cast back in the late 70's with anchors Lou Waters & Ron Fortner, it was actually quite good despite its low budget.

Now that we have drifted a bit off topic, let us remember channel 6 news in the real old days, with Russ Tilford sitting on a stool with just the channel 6 International Station black & white logo in the background.

Names...Ray Wilson, Harold Keene, Joe Marciano, Doug Oliver, Rod Sherry, and of course Rachel Tejada, Bob Mills, Johnny Downs.  Quite a cast!

To get back on topic of 1360, I bet they will change format as soon as they get there power boost, because according to 100000watts.com they where approved there construction permit.

And will 1360 be 50kw at night because 100000watts.com isnt being very specific.

The CP is 50kw 50kw ... different patterns day and night. However the real coverage area, according to the maps, won't be much more. Those inside of the city grade signal will have better reception.

JOHN ELLIOT today is talking on air about possible format change at 1360...ALSO the KLSD web site just changed to "changing formats" ---this is more than rumor.....

Probably low revenues because AAR is hard to sell to mostly conservative business owners.  Format switch might go broker financial shows (money talk new Fox format), or all news network.  Probably too expensive to go all sports, except if they pulled it away ESPN from 800.  Watch for lots of Aztec games to be on 1360.
there's always satellite radio....
