The FCC has to ease up with these LPFMs and Translators. Brookshire for example now has KQLC-LP, and that little 63 watts station does hurt KQQK. I can hear it really destroy the massive 100,000 watt KQQK in Katy sometimes. As for 95.1, there goes another station that I use in the Southside for my iPod. Hopefully, that's the only Translator they fire up for now.
I still don't see how the FCC is allowing this. I always presumed the FCC only allowed translators to cover inside the main station's 60 (or 70, i forgot) dbu contour. Can someone refresh my memory? I amy be wrong on this.
Remember, 107.9 has moved to a new antenna (non directional) with 98.5 and thus had to reduce power to maintain countors toward adj and cochannels.....They do NOT have the signal they used to in Houston (but the old antenna was likely illegal anyway!)...I have a feeling the new antenna favors 98.5 and 107.9 has to take what it gets on the pattern, etc...
You are right as to stations in the commercial band being restricted to translators owned by themselves staying within the 60dbu area (outside or non involved interests CAN put a translator on anywhere and repeat any station if they have permission....there was one in Conroe years ago that repeated KASE 101 out of Austin)...NCE (and thus religious) who operate a translator in the commercial band CAN be outside the 60dbu area also (but they MUST receive off the air...they cannot use any other method to the get the signal to the remote transmitter)....KSBJ does this in several areas...
