GO TIGERS!

Deliah has incredible talent! As much as some people dislike her, she is very successful and very talented and thus why her ratings are consistently decent.
It's all a matter or opinion.  You seem to really like her.  I think she's dreadful.  You should hear her trainwreck on KBIG in Los Angeles.  It's awful.

Here's the neat part, calguy- you are not part of her target audience.  She's after women 25-54.

No, I'm not Oldies Cat, however I've been in radio since the 70's, a lot of that time in AC radio and I think I know "good" radio when I hear it.  I don't hear it when I listen to Delilah.  Her show on KBIG is a mish-mash of mainstream AC hits with up-tempo dance mixes, it's awful and sounds VERY out of place on the station.  Plus, she goes on way too long about herself, not what I think a lovesongs style show should be about.  I feel that it should be about the listener.  But that's "my" opinion.  By the way, I've used the "you're not the target audience/demo" line myself, and I don't think it applies here, but you have a right to say what you want.

It's fine to opine an opinion about a show but if you're in radio AND not part of her demo focus, you don't really have that great an objective look at her show.  She wins because to her target (women 35-54) she absolutely connects with them.  What you and I think a "lovesongs style show" should be about is moot, since she's not going after us.

Personally, she's not my cup of tea at all-- but I'm not part of her target, either, so just because I don't necessarily like her show doesn't mean I don't get why she works very well (and has for years).

Deliliah is a weird entity, indeed. She has virtually no middle ground. It's love or hate. The love part works surprisingly
well. Maybe she's not the most talented on the planet, etc., blah, blah, blah...but we could go on about MUCH
worse syndicated morning "talent." I hate to admit that she has grown on me and I am not in her target audience.
She just does manage to connect much better than 90% of what's happening on stations today. I have
to admit, when I heard NYC was going to really happen, I wondered how she would play to the masses there.
Not a bad showing at all. Consistent for sure. I am honestly surprised. Esepcially for such harsh New Yorkers.
Go figure.

'Cat, we could argue "logic" forever. To me, it's safe to say ratings and excellent radio seem to rarely cross paths
anymore. I guess it's time for another Lionel Richie song.  Smiley

I can agree that she may connect to her target demo, but in most cases only when there is no strong local competition. In Los Angeles she had her clock cleaned by Karen Sharp on KOST in 1998 and it doesn't look like her latest attempt will make any headway against KOST either.  Her current foray into the top two markets is merely because Premiere, owned by Clear Channel, strong armed stations in these two clusters to get her on the air.  She may fit better on Lite FM because their music is closer to what her show plays and it’s a great station, but her show on KBIG is terrible.  They're a dance oriented hot AC trying to re-program the Delilah show to fit and it doesn't.  They merely turn-off the audience at 10pm that was listening to their mix show Boogie Nights.  You can almost hear the channel being changed on radios everywhere.  Decidedly Delilah is not my cup of tea either, but I do understand the AC audience as I've been talking to and entertaining it for years with some success.  I don't feel that I need to be a woman to know what sounds good, and if any of the opinions I've heard from countless female listeners is an indication she's not as well liked as one might think.  You're right, she connects, but again, not when the competition is better.  Sadly, few PD's or talent truly understand how to program this type of show adding to Delilah's edge. We could debate this forever, but we'll never truly agree.  You believe she's talented, I don't think she's that good, plain as that.  I respect your opinion, just don't go along with all of it.
