I haven't heard Walking On Sunshine on Magic yet. Maybe its time will come.

It's on.  Been for years.

Haven't heard it on there and still haven't this year either. I have heard it on sister station WROR though.

Another example of an OLD song that was added to Magic last year is "Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money. Do you think that crosses over to Hot AC, or do you think it's a little on the soft side?

its more Hot AC, however the direction that Magic has been going very recently it more or less rather fits in instead.

Now maybe they always played these songs, however this is the first time that I really noticed though.

A lot of people have a false impression of Magic.

Many think of it as a "Light AC"...like WLTW...or the old WSSH.

Magic was never in this category....but more of a mainstream AC.  They seem to play almost anything contemporary that is popular with adults.

Unlike WLTW and the old WSSH and stations that evolved out of the old Beautiful Music formats....Magic has always had a much younger base than most people realize.  (They usually surprise people at how well they do 18-34...especially in their evening show)

I assume most guys never listen to Magic...so I think that is why they are surprised when they finally hear certain songs.

Remember, todays soft rock (Springsteen, Genesis, Pink) is different than yesterdays soft rock (Neil, Barbara, Kenny)

When's the last time you listened to WLTW? They're even closer to Hot AC than Magic is, and they have been for a while!

I'm hearing them going a lot more rhythmic then I would have ever expected. I was shocked to hear Dan Justin announce "new soft rock from Rihanna," followed by "Umbrella" - which isn't an explicit song but sure isn't "soft" and absolutely is not "rock" either.

Not that I remember. I have been more or less tuning into Magic since the 1980's, back when they used the moniker "Continuous Soft Hits" instead. Common songs that they would play were Heart "These Dreams", Simply Red "Holding Back The Years", and of course staples at the time Irene Cara's "Flashdance, What A Feeling", etc.

In 1989 they repositioned themselves as Continuous Soft Rock instead and artists such as Bonnie Rait were added, all the while still being pretty soft.

Then about at at turn of the millennium is when I first noticed songs that did not quite fit the "Continuous Soft Rock" image. This evolution into what they are has been quite slow, however during the past 2 years in particular there has been a dramatic change in their programming being much more Mainstream than they have been before.

Does anyone else want to chime in on this? That is what I remember anyway.

I'm sure with the arrival of competition, WLTW has started to morph into something more competitive.

However, I remember in the late 80's WLTW was still including Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra in their regular rotation.....something magic never did.

I don't know if WLTW has jingles now....but for the longest time they resisted adding them....even as AC's around the country started adding them.   The station has historically been a jellyfish (soft without a backbone).

For the last couple of years though...they have had to adapt for the first time to having a formidable competitor.

Even before Fresh 102.7 came along, they had long ago stopped playing those artists, Barry Manilow, etc... they probably haven't played anything by him in at least 10 years.
