When listening this morning I noticed 3 songs that they wouldn't normally play these days:

Jessie's Girl-Rick Springfield
Break My Stride-Matthew Wilder
Mysterious Ways-U2

The first 2 are the 80's type of songs that that I believe that Oldies 103.3 will be embracing in the coming years.

The U2 song is just a further indication on how AC format continues to evolve and change.

Now maybe they always played these songs, however this is the first time that I really noticed though.

I think those songs WERE recently added to their playlist. I really think they are starting to turn into more of a Hot AC station.

The U2 was added this year, but the other two have been on for a long time

Those songs still test well in an AC format. I've played them at multiple AC/Hot AC stations.
Also:
B-52's "Loveshack"
Katrina and the Waves "Walking on Sunshine"
Simple Minds "Don't you forget about me" are other examples of high-scoring 80's records on AC stations.

Break My Stride-Matthew Wilder

They've played that song ever since it was a hit. Picture the suburban soccer mom in a jogging suit and Reebok's out for her morning run, in step to that song playing on her Walkman tuned to WMJX - that's the target demo (or at least it was, before iPods).   Roll Eyes

Just to put that in perspective, the most played 80's song YTD on Magic is "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. 253 times.

It seems as though the following songs have been in the background as of late though, but especially Jessie's Girl. I do see the oldies stations picking up on the first 2 at some point.

I haven't heard Walking On Sunshine on Magic yet. Maybe its time will come.

Another example of an OLD song that was added to Magic last year is "Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money. Do you think that crosses over to Hot AC, or do you think it's a little on the soft side?
