Anyone know when Carr's last day is? No, not on earth but on RKO?
Severin keeps coughing up Howie's name as a promo. Then again Howie Carr is a lot like phlegm...

September 19. Howie's reference to his move to 96.9 is an elephant's roar. If you listen to
Howie (Casa must like being offended so he can bring it up on the board! Smiley --yup, listening to Howie must be
like undergoing a root canal to Casa, but he absolutely MUST! Smiley )--you would hear him skirting the subject
in creative ways. He mentions he's burning off his vacation time...when he talked about WXTK down on
the Cape he said, "I like those call letters!" (i.e., kinda sound like WTKK) etc

I suppose I could tune into Jay to see if something offends me but I don't want to miss Howie (heck,
I could have tuned into Jay last week when the Col. was on but I didn't want to hear his --Jay's--voice.
If I'm not quite into a certain host I'll usually avoid them (though sometimes I can check out a minute or two
of Savage, but again am not quite into him either)

The roaring elephant is kind of Howie "blowing his own horn" in celebration that he's leaving. He's about to
stampede right out of there and get a higher salary and a better situation, and be away from the Felon etc.
He can't say on air that he plans to move to WTKK, so this is his way of reminding the audience of what is about to happen...(he told curious listeners to "read the papers" if they were wondering what was going on.
Read their coverage of his move.)

...right after the news broke, he was told by WRKO to read a statement on air saying he could not comment.
During the reading of it, he kept saying "it says here" meaning that what he was reading was clearly
not inked by him but by his bosses and he was just reading what they told him to say.

His contract is up Sept. 19, which is in the middle of the week.

Who knows how many vacation days he has left to burn off, so he could be off the air earlier by his choice by burning those vacation days, or on the other hand Coffee Boy and friends could pull him with no notice preventing him from having a parting shot on their dime. What he could get away with saying without running afoul of a non disparagement clause that I ASSUME is in his contract is subject to debate.

There is still the issue of the non compete clause that although illegal in MA, is part of a still unsettled court action, one of many between Entercom and Howie Carr. Howies lawyers might advise him to not start at  Greater Media until the non compete clause has been decided by a Judge or jury. This soap opera has been in play over a month now I wonder what the hold up is?

Greater Media may not want him on the air until the issues have been adjudicated. Right now their hands are clean. There is no doubt they want him, but why become a party to a lawsuit if you can avoid it.

Severin has taken an express elevator south in terms of appeal, status and stature. He irks too many people, lives life way too large, and disconnects himself from his audience with weeks-at-a-time vacations. Indeed, a crystal ball might project Carr ending right back on the afternoon shift at WTKK--eventually--if Severin continues his free-fall.

I'd hope Howie winds up at 'TKK in afternoons--maybe move Severin to another slot there...but agreed
on your other points.
btw the latest D&C on 'EEI ad in today's paper proclaims them as "still #1 in mornings"...they haven't
been on together in maybe 4 or 5 months at least, and are being benched right now...

http://www.bostonsportsmedia.com says D&C are supposedly both out of state right now and their
contract with Entercom expires in about 10 days. David Scott of BostonSportsMedia says
"The plain fact is, neither side has any other legit option at this point. D&C will settle for their pay raise and 'EEI will avoid the risk of shaking up a proven commodity. The next ratings book may not be so kind to the AM drive dreck 'EEI has been pushing for the bulk of the summer."

Howie will definitely not be on WTKK until the legal issues are settled. At present, he cannot legally sign a contract with them. Perhaps he has signed some sort of letter of intent, but from what I read online it appears that he is suing for the right to enter into a contract with Greater Media.

The clause at issue is not a "non-compete" which does not seem to stand up anywhere, but rather a "right-to-match", which is a little different.

He was supposed to get a bonus if he lands at 'TKK by Oct 1...not sure if 'RKO really could match the deal--
since Howie could say, "I want to be on an FM signal, in morning drive, where I won't get pre-empted
by Sox games..." etc. I don't know if he'd be able to pull that off (what's 'RKO going to do, start up a talk
station on 93.7 or 97.7 or something just to put Howie on so he can get that wish?)

maybe once Sept 19 rolls around, OK, he's done with Entercom, so he signs the deal with GM and can
proceed to move ahead with an Oct 1 launch. But it is also possible, maybe even probable, that HC
will be off for awhile as legal stuff gets ironed out.
