BUT WHAT REALLY GETS UNDER MY SKIN IS THAT THERE ARE TWO REALLY GOOD LOCAL TALK SHOW HOSTS THAT ARE NOT ON THE AIRWAVES. THEY BOTH ONCE WORKED AT WGPA. ONE HAD A STINT FOR A FEW YEARS AND THE OTHER WAS ONLY GIVEN TWO WEEKS. BOTH VOICES ARE SORELY MISSED IN THE LEHIGH VALLEY.
Do people really know what they are missing? No offense to Ken and the years he put in at B, but lets be honest, everyone of us is expendable...and easily replaced. It's the nature of our industry. Again, using Ken as the example, I'm sure the hate mail rolled in when he was canned...but each month that feedback decreased to a point now where it's probably at zero. (Hating the current show is a possibility, but I digress.)
The listener will look back on the show fondly, as many of us do when we think of the "good ol' days." Honestly, though, the listener has moved on.
In the end, to reuse the phrase, the listener doesn't know what he or she is missing. And, honestly, doesn't care. There are too many other things to capture their attention anymore.
And if they have such a great show, produce it and podcast it. Sell ad time on it. You'd reach more people on the net than via Jolly Joe.
