The transaction was filed yesterday...I just noticed. The price is $22M for both WAGI and WEAC. Wow, that's a lot of money.

It was reported about 2 weeks ago that the GM was going to buy WEAC...I wonder how much Davidson will sell that for? AND, what would Davidson do with WEAC if they keep (or kept) the AM...WEAC?

It's gonna be tough to make a go of WAEC since WAGI so dominated the operation. It's been a  long long time since an AM did well in Gaffney yet just 30 miles away, WBCU in Union, AM only, does almost as much local business as WAGI did not counting the paid religion. A big reason...WBCU has never had a FM and Union is a bit more isolated from out of town signals.

That being said I hope Dennis can buy a FM translator that covers Gaffney so that when the FCC allows AMs to broadcast over FM translators he will have nighttime service and a good frequency would likely cover the entire county day and night.  I'd also call it WAGI. How many of you know that the 1180 AM in Gaffney used to be on 1570 with 250 watts. That's the oldest station in town since 1948.

Update on the tower situation:

I got my paper this morning (on actual paper) and there was a great big photo of the tower on the front page.

Update to the update ...

Here's the story my newspaper ran Wednesday morning (we have had a daily in Gastonia). I watched the city council hearing/meeting on TV for two hours, then blogged after the meeting. Sure glad I don't work for Crown Castle or Davidson.

http://www.gastongazette.com/news/mountain_5921___article.html/council_tower.html

It was never pointed out during the hearing that the COL would be Bessemer City. But I mentioned that in my blog post, which came not from the standpoint of beauty to the top of Crowders Mountain (being an old radio guy, I happen to think that towers can be a beautiful sight), but for the fact that a great radio station (WAGI-FM) was silenced for ... something else and a language I don't speak.

But I digress.
