To me, that is just so weird. With so many signals in the Bay Area, how can a station in Monterey, pull a 1 in San Jose, when there are SF stations that can't even get a reading down there? To top it off, they get in to the South Bay with their signal, but definitely don't cover it all. Why haven't Bay Area programmers picked up on that and tried to do something, at least similar? Someone's not paying attention.

because for a long time KDON was just KYLD-Lite, a clone, staffed with ex-KYLD personalities... not so much the case anymore, but since Wild 94.9 has changed so much recently, listeners who want that old format can still get it via KDON.

KDON is a Rhythmic that leans very Latin to cater to the Monterey/Salinas market, plus with it's heritage and signal it's like the third or sometimes second choice in SJ out of KYLD, and KMEL. With KYLD's changes leaning Pop, and KMEL leaning Urban this leaves that demo untapped in the South Bay. They seem to respect KYLD and not mention, or do anything in the South Bay of course since they are both Clear Channel. For them screaming Salinas or Santa Cruz all day and still pull a 1 share must piss off the Bay Area stations that come in right around a 1 (KMVQ lol). It actually all makes sense revenue wise for Clear Channel to have 3 stations that play similar music catering to three different demos, and regions rather than 3 that are all the same like in the past. Also I think mostly the entire staff that's still there is from KYLD.

Still suprised a format like KDON's... isn't being done locally on a San Jose targeted stick. KYLD's signal in San Jose is much weaker than KDON's... it's all that on-air San Jose image that helps so much. Seems like theres been a hole there since Hot 97.7 dumped the format in the late 90's.

they should cut their losses at Mild 94.9. the place is a joke. Why wouldn't you just put the KDON team in charge up in the Bay Area. I'm sure they would dominate. they could turn that 1 share into a 10 share up here. it's a FAR superior product.

The reason they are doing it the way they are...they can make more money! The SF/SJ simulcast spots can be sold for far more than Monterey station spots into the market. The KDON team in charge was tried before. Remember Dennis Martinez?

Dennis Martinez isnt the best example to use. I believe KDONs numbers actually rose after he left for his stint at KYLD.

You are missing the point...he went to WiLD and imploded! I'm sure KDON's #s did go up when he left!
