She didn't use the term young men she said boys which to me implies under age. 

As in the childhood classics, The Boys of Everest, The Boys of Summer, Jersey Boys, etc etc.
I can probably find more references in popular culture using the word 'boys' to connote men than I can connoting children.

But then, I'm not going out of my way  looking to find something to be offended over.

I once heard Callahan refer to gay people as "perverts." I guess that went under the radar.
