The rodeo clowns at Entercom clearly hate having their dirty laundry aired in blogs. Theirs is a massively cut-throat business where the idea is to try 'keeping it all inside.' Thanks to the Internet, we see how ruthless Frick & Frack are at Entercomm. Thanks to ratings books, we see how people are sticking the knife in their backs by pulling away from WRKO. I'm one of thousands who will never subsidize WEEI or WRKO again. The ratings put a smile on my face because I know I'm contributing.

Very surprising.  Did Entercom brass think Shots was gonna go on and completely trash the station? 

Perhaps they are trying to insinuate that a web-based media watchdog critic isn't worthy of air time, that they wouldn't deign to bestow respectability (from these people??) upon him?

I doubt we'll ever find out what the real reason is, but I can't think of anything but paranoia being behind this.

Of course this insidious inside politics powerplay scenario could be true, or it could be simply that they didn't want to cannibalize themselves by spending two hours talking about sports media opposite their sports station. I know that they talk sports (at least peripherally) on WRKO sometimes, but that is usually when you can't get out of the way of it (Opening Day, World Series, etc.), but this doesn't seem as important (though the throwaway nature of a holiday weekend almost makes me think "who cares?").

Scott has had unkind things to say about WEEI and Entercom that were editorial more than factual, so maybe they didn't want to enhance his brand in any way. That is their prerogative too. With competing stations and the web, they don't really have the power to silence their opposition (unless the opposition gives them that power with a signed contract, but I digress), but they don't have to hand him a 50,000 watt megaphone either.

Scott has been highly critical of WEEI in general and Pete Sheppard, Meterparel, and Larry Johnson(called him putrid) in particular.  I bet he was invited by Hedlund without asking anyone and as soon as Jason Wolfe heard about it, he was nixed. I think the most annoying thing about WEEI is that they are very successful, in spite of the likes of Sheppard, Meter, Larry Johnson, Craig Mustard et al.  They don't even seem to care who fills in as long as they're not critical of WEEI.  I thought Gerry Callahan was the world's biggest a-hole until I heard Bob Halloran yesterday.  It doesn't get much worse than that.
