Last year the ball drop was also in HD. It was amazing how 3 of the 4 major networks, 2 of the major cable news networks and MTV were all live in Times Square. Competition is getting fierce as more and more live acts are filling up stages set up above and in Times Square. It's even spreading to Rockefeller Center. I appreciated Rockin Eve being mostly live and Dick Clark was right on cue with the countdown but my major complaint about Rockin Eve was the piling on of the commercials between 11:54 and almost 11:58. For almost 2 hours they hyped the new ball but we never saw the ball decend until the 14 second mark. Cut to the ball guys. Over at CNN, Anderson Cooper made a point at 11:52 to tell the viewers that there would no more commericals until well after midnite. You got the true buildup, and to his credit, he stopped talking and let the sight and sounds speak for itself. Carson Daly did the same thing at NBC.

Actually, CNN had Kathy Griffin alongside Anderson Cooper at Times Square, which I didn't mind because she always makes anything fun worth watching without being boring. And being in Alaska, we had two chances to see the ball drop: live at 8:00 pm on CNN and Fox Noise, and again at midnight on ABC, NBC, and Fox.

But of course, YouTube has amateur videos of the ball drop from many angles, and a clean one is up as well.
