Goes to show how bad the sports radio market is in Cowtown.
I heard about Herbie, Hooley, Spielman.
What real radio broadcaster who has spent their career behind the mike is on that station?

Speilman was a great player, but a long time ago in broadcast terms.
Herbie is doing the gig for benefits, his ESPN employers dont provide medical and dental since he's considered a contract employee.
The rest of them are just bad broadcasters.

I agree with the other posts.
ESPN all the time.

That's a laugh ...... you mean someone who makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a year (if not millions) is sticking around WBNS to avoid paying $12,000 a year for health insurance?  LOL!

If "36" is so bad, then why did he CRUSH the ratings from noon to 2? Was everybody listening to how "bad" he was? I'm not saying he's good, I'm just saying the ratings were in that specific daypart. I think that is a fair question. It may also be a reasonable expectation to believe that he will bring some of those numbers with him.

36 being unlistenable is my humble opinion.

What did his "CRUSH" look like?  I don't have access to any numbers in the market.

Does his "CRUSH" apply outside of trends during football season?

It is a "CRUSH" compared to who and what?

I think a lot of factors in a 36 CRUSH are smoke and mirrors.
I respect your opinion. I'm not saying he's good or bad. I'm saying he pulls numbers in and out of football season. Can you manipulate numbers to suit yourself? Sure you can, it's Arbitron. Do you want to be #1 with one legged lesbians 25-54? We can find a way to make that happen. Here is the facts: Spiels consistantly pulls 10+ numbers with men 25-54 from noon-2p in spring, summer, winter and fall. Cut and dried.

Uh... 10+?  Spring, summer, winter, fall?  Crushes everyone else?
Let's take a look.
Demo: M25-54 Time: M-F Noon-2p
Summer -- 7.4 4th place
Spring -- 6.1 3rd place
Winter  -- 9.1 3rd place
Fall -- 7.8 3rd place

Looks like in a year he hasn't hit the 10+ "consistently" as you said, or ever,  and 3rd - 4th places doesn't appear that he's "crushing" anyone either... might want to do your research before making such claims...

CRUSH...guess not...still, #3 is better than any of the OSU teams he played on finished...if the Columbus radio market was the Big Ten his show would be like Wisconsin.

Not bad, eh?

TRB, Let me issue an assignment. Now that Spiels is off of the Mid-Day show, I'll invite you to give Ricordati another chance. Mike is a very good talent. With Chris, he had a tendency to get lazy, because Chris did what he wanted to do on a whim, and Mike had no input. With his new partner, I believe mike will have a renewed vision and enthusiasm for his craft. Listen to his show for a week and you will hear a better Ricordati.

I'm not a Speilman fan.  I think he's borderline.  That being said, his ratings are frankly better than I though they would be.  Not because I personally don't care for him on the air, but that he's doing it on a signal that most people would call impared.  Yeah, he's doing it on the daytime portion of the signal which isn't too bad for market coverage, but when you consider the night pattern hampers carryover into the day from morning drive, the frequency he's on and the fact he's up against Rush, I would be thrilled if I had those numbers.

I'm not either, but ABC and Fox see something in him.

Ditto to all ESPN all the time.  Hooley is ridiculous.  He talks out of both sides of his mouth.  I listen to Shark on Sports on 103.9 during that timeslot now because I couldn't stand Hooley and Herbstreit (who is never there anyway).

Herbstreit has lost a lot of credit with me.  Yes I am an OSU homer but how he could compare the Big Ten to the MAC is beyond me.  Sure the SEC is the class of the country but the MAC can't hold a candle to the Big Ten. C'mon Herbie, get real.

Herbie works the double standard between his local and national thoughts constantly. Hooley is a pompous jack*** and it comes across over the air and in person. Unfortunately the local content is no longer listenable.

1460 is no longer listenable but I do like Shark on Sports even though I didn't like it at first.  They could stop putting Dave from Powell on the air and it wouldn't upset me but other than that, I like the content of the show.  It helps that they talk a lot of NFL which I am most interested in.  It also helps that Shark is a Browns fan.
