Chris contacted Mary Carey before her Thursday appearance on the show and got her to bring in a man named Chuck as her "slave boy". At the end of the interview he drops a KC Thomas appearance plug and yells "Kidd Chris" twice before they cut to commercial.

Thoughts? Radio finally getting interesting? Chris is also repeatedly threatening any upcoming WMMR live broadcasts, as well as an apparent Y100 reunion and Bill Weston's phone number (along with the numbers of others).

First... I think it's pretty sad that Kidd has to resort to this.

Second... honest question.... can YSP re-broadcast (even though it's small) that chunk of the P&S Show?  Like how the NFL threatens cutting off your fingers if you even think of re-broadcasting the games?

Just curious...

Personally I prefer P&S... but I'm not going to start a flamewar over who is better.

I've stated before that P&S have an INSANELY loyal following... and KC has a VERY tough battle to win them over.  Can it be done... sure.  But I wouldn't expect it to be an instant flood over to KC

I've never understood the humor of, nor interest in, the idea of having to say one person's name on another show.  Is that supposed to somehow make you better?  More clever?   Seriously, what's the big deal?

I wouldn't consider it so much a "win" (and FAR from clever) as it is getting a few good plugs in on the rival show, IN STUDIO, while also messing with their heads a little. They pulled off this neat little interview and thought everything had gone fine, then all of a sudden you have some guy yelling KIDD CHRIS KIDD CHRIS. It also helps that (apparently) P&S previously got a talking to from mgmt. barring them from any talk of the Kidd Chris show.

Well I think Chris is up for anything to draw listeners away from P&S (He has apparently done it in other markets at his other morning shows).

And though he played it about 3 times yesterday (the day it happened), he didn't play it at all the times he brought it up today and was talking about it.

Ah, but the listeners of show X--the "pranker"--are already likely tuned to that show.  In all seriousness, how much will it move the needle among listeners to show Y--the "prankee"--for some dimwit to be shouting the name of a competing show?

Sure, it gives show X something to sit around grinning like a drunk frat boy about, but playing the bit on his show is only talking to the people who were already there...is it going to make his listeners suddenly more loyal because he pulled one over on the other guys?

Hey, if you offer the show more people want to listen to, more power to you.  And maybe pranking someone else is appealing somehow, but then again, I never thought phone scams (in all of their various incarnations) were amusing either.  I prefer humor where you can stand on your own, not use an unwitting dupe to provide laughs.

I'm sure the fact that he was able to crack the usually tightly run P&S ship and fluster and interrupt the flow of the show will garner some interest in some listeners (they ALL won't FLOCK to the dial and spin it to the right) , but if not, it'll at least make P&S think twice about the security of their show and the security of their spot in the ratings. They may make all the effort in the world to turn their heads and ignore it, but Chris is damned to have his show right there, breathing down their necks. It's all desperate ploys for ratings that Chris makes blatantly obvious. Howard Stern's final days and the unfortunate Free FM fiasco was pretty much WYSP handing WMMR the ball, then walking off the court. Morning shows are clearly what major stations are banking on these days, and WYSP is backing KC and  apparently has no qualms giving him free reign to do whatever it takes.

I don't know what better you're expecting from whats happening or the parties involved. It's not AM news talk. It's not NPR or your Lite Rock Generic Male and Female morning show. This is Morning Zoo. This is Wack Pack. This is Pests.  And what is all going on is just par for the course.

I was thinking this too... In all honesty, I think it's cheezy radio bits that we've heard time and time again, and reasons why people stereotype the radio likes (along with puking and Dr. Fever-types) .. Now, I'm a pretty big P&S fan and I really dont care for Kidd Chris AT all.. To me, its boring adolescent humor that I grew out of.. But I remember why I liked Opie and Anthony when they first came to NYC.. I was in my early 20s, so it was perfect.. I was drawn to them because they were insubordinate, 'damn the man' types..
Chris is just doing the same thing that O&A did, which is the same thing that Howard did, etc etc..

As annoying as it is to a listener of P&S (but AWESOME to hear as a radio geek), I think its refreshing to hear a little shake up between stations.. Its like the little annoying kid picking on the bigger kid.. In a weird, outside, twisted way, it's kind of amusing to hear KC take it to this level..

What will MMR do in retaliation?  Will they retaliate, or continue to stick their chest out and flaunt that they dont have to stoop to their level.. that they're better then the other station, because they're older, etc. etc...

It could get pretty interesting soon, and hopefully we'll hear some GREAT writing and imaging
