Avenue, so they will be located somewhere in west Nashville.  They will also be moving their transmitter site closer to town, so they will obviously be targeting west Nashville, and not Cheatham County.  Their call letters will likely be changing

If they plan on moving the transmitter it's going to take awhile.  The only recent applications that show up are the power increase to 2kw (at the existing site), the transfer of control, and the last renewal.

Doesn't mean they *won't* move the transmitter but if the paperwork were filed today I'd think it would take several months (at the least) for the FCC to process it.

If the site is moved more east towards town, it's possible they could go to 2.5 KW. That station is only protecting WMC in Memphis, off the top of my head. It just depends on how far east they can move it.  If that happens, they will put a nice daytime signal over the metro, but they can for get about the nighttime unless they spend a ton of money on property and do a highly directional pattern.

The engineering exhibit on their application for the 2kw upgrade also showed a study against the 790 station in Louisville.  (whose calls I've forgotten - they change too much!)

There's also Atlanta and Johnson City to consider, though those two may not be a problem even at higher power.

I really don't think Atlanta or Johnson City would be a problem, infact, they could get up to 4 KW, but this is just a guess.

Well, another AM station bites the dust. I guess before it's all over with it will be just WSM-AM, WQKR-AM 1270 (Ted Johnson/Lee Dorman's station) and WMRO, Magic 1560 in Gallatin with music in English. The rest of the AM Band will go to hell with a bunch of hispanic junk. Angry
****Hey....tell that Pastor of that church that I have a Sunday Morning opening that just came up yesterday at 1560 Gallatin. Have him call me if he wants it! I will sell him the time at a good price!
Scott @ MRO, Gallatin
I can't promise you anything, but I will talk to him.  He lives somewhere along Sam's Creek Road, so he's between Pegram and Ashland City, but he has a Pegram address.  (He lives substantially closer to Ashland City than I do.  I've seen him at the Pegram post office, and his wife at the Dollar General store here.)  I'm guessing that he would want to be on a signal that would reach this area quite nicely.

He and several other area pastors have been on some type of time-share agreement with WQSV.  Corky was letting them have the time for free!  The pastor I know is on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m., so if you are near a radio at that time, you can tune in then, or listen online.  He is also on at the 8:30-9:30 time frame on Sunday mornings (time approximate).  I am not sure if he wants to, or is able to, buy airtime, but I can talk to him and find out.  I'm assuming that he wants to stay on WQSV until the changeover.  If you will send me contact information off this board, I will try to put him in touch with you.  (Because of the distance, I'm guessing that he would want to send you tapes if he went on your station.)

Hey wait a minute, some of those locally owned greasy spoon places are some of the best places to eat. Fast food.....uuuummmmmm, I just hate McDonalds. At one time they tried to produde a burger and other heathly type foods for older folks like me watching thier weight. It never really took off, even with all the ad money they spent to promote it, it never really didn't attract the older demo.
My parents must be going through their second childhood.  They seem to have this fixation with stopping at McDonald's everywhere they go, even if it is for nothing more than a cup of coffee!  The Bellevue McDonald's hosts senior citizens' bingo every Monday afternoon, and my parents have been regulars there, and probably will be again, but for right now, my mother is recovering from knee surgery.  My parents have had their photo taken with Ronald McDonald, more than once, I think!  Those photos have been printed in the Westview (Bellevue-area paper), and tacked on the bulletin board there at McDonald's.

So if you put coffee in a Happy Meal, I suppose my parents would be good to go!  Grin

As for oldies, I wish stations would continue to play oldies from at least 1964 (British invasion era) forward.  I can see if they want to drop all the girl groups and teenage girl singers and dance crazes of the week from the earlier '60s, but for me, the "modern era" of music began around 1964.  Nothing against the '50s; I'm also a fan of Elvis, Buddy Holly, and the Everly Brothers, to name a few.  I'm 44, so saying that music from the '60s only appeals to folks in their 60s now is simply not correct.  I've listened to this music myself all my life.  But since I grew up in the '70s and '80s, I'm obviously glad to see my generation's music finally getting some representation on the radio.  And this hasn't been said (much), but even in their waning days as an "oldies" station, 97.1 was starting to add some late '70s artists like Peter Frampton to their playlist.  I just never understood why 1975 was the cutoff date for the "oldies" generation.  That was obviously right in the middle of my era of listening preference!  The "oldies" stations are loath to touch anything post-1975, and the classic-hits stations seem to shy away from anything earlier than that!  Even "JACK" and Mix 92.9 occasionally play "Can't Buy Me Love" by the Beatles!

If you play "La Bamba," please stick to Ritchie Valens' version!  I've never cared for the Los Lobos remake.  Grin

And if you really want to hear a strange mish-mash of oldies, tune in to WQSV between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. or listen to them online at http://www.wqsvam790.com sometime over the next two weeks, while you still can!

Richie Valens had a true, great voice and was a fantastic preformer. I saw the movie about his life up until the plane crash of 1959 during the winter party tour. Conway Twitty gave up his seat for Richie Valens that night, due to Richie had been sick and they wanted to get him to the next stop as soon as possible. We lost a great talent when we lost him!

Ricky Martin in the 90's could have been the next Richie Valens if only he had the right producers. He is talented, but I think he didn't have the right backers to give him the push he needed and proper guidence to reach the masses.

Scott, wasn't the Holly/Big Bopper/Valens flight seat surrenderer Waylon Jennings and not Conway Twitty?
