Tom, it's heartening to see that Jack's relatives have seen some of this.  The "good guys" need to be remembered in this crazy business!

You might, if you haven't already, want to stop by the Cleveland board, where he was heard on two stations in the 1960's.  I'm sure other discussions are going on, in other markets where Jack worked!

I will soon be posting another Jack aircheck from the 1997 WMJI/WIXY Cleveland Reunion weekend. Took place Oct 10-11 of that year.

This aircheck is Jack doing 7-11pm, running the board himself.

Included; former WIXY Superman Billy Bass, Jim LaBarbara and former Oldies 93 PD Kris Abrams

Will be posted later today, after 5pm EST at www.chuckmatthewsvoice.com/downloads/misc

And there's an aircheck of Jack from earlier in the day live on location with former WMJI pm driver Scott Howitt.

That is currently posted.

That second Jack aircheck, from my ReelRadio collection, is now posted at the link provided earlier, as well as a WIXY1260 composite.

The man was the real deal.  Talent from on high.  One of a kind.  A star in the sky.  Check the Buffalo-Rochester board for stories from his glory days at WKBW.  Jack, you touched a million hearts.

Someone sent me a short  January 1966 aircheck of him using his real name at WCOG, and it was obvious he was in his own league... no matter what name he was using. I can't think of a more exciting guy to listen to on the air. He was the absolute model for an AM night jock. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him.
What a way to go.... Cry

I'm one of many who wrote to both local papers in the market about Jack yesterday.  I'm glad to see they were both able to do something...

If anyone has the 1972 Programmer's Digest LP with the WKBW program director introducing airchecks of his airstaff(including Jack)...please post Jack's aircheck online so all can hear it.  Jack introduces an Osmonds song "Down By The Lazy River" and live-tags a spot for PHisohex with the humous comment "...and don't forget WKBW cures warts!" LOL!!!

Jackson at his best was at WKBW.

It is great that so many people are talking about this great talent who was an even greater man.  Jack Armstrong gave so many of us so many memories that will be with us until we see him again.

HOWEVER...

I cannot idly stand by and remain silent about the comments Randall Bliss made in the Journal.  This is the same man who FIRED Armstrong and brought in Max McGann (nothing personal, Max) and made moves leading to the ultimate DEMISE of Oldies 93.  To have this man compliment Jack Armstrong when he saw fit to break that man's heart by firing him is a bridge too far for me and Tim Clodfelter (who wrote the piece) should have done better.  Bliss will have to carry around the fact that he was the last guy to fire the most talented jock any of us ever knew.  Shame on you, Randall.  Next time, try "no comment".

Y'know, we really shouldn't sully the wake, but I too wondered who the guy was that pulled the trigger on the man who arguably was/is one of the finest radio entertainers in the business. And I wondered why? WHY was Entercom so adamant about purging their station of a man who lived and breathed radio. A man who called Carolina home. A man who knew more about radio and serving listeners than any of the top 10 suits in Entercom. Again, it's not my intent to sully the wake of a great radio talent. Perhaps another thread and another time. Let it just be said that some questions deserve to be asked and need to be answered. Respectfully, -9-
