How 'bout this:

Randal has a boss, too.

Jack was his hero.  How hard must it have been to have that conversation with the man who made you want to get in the biz.

God bless you Jack.  God bless your family.

Rest in peace and thanks for what you gave us.  You'll never go away.

Randall did a fabulous job programming Oldies 93. Working with Jack was incredible for him, as it was for many of us. Randy has been my friend nearly 20 years. I can assure you that he took no joy in executing that decision. That he and Jack remained friends to the end should be enough for those few that "wonder".

When you sit at a PD's desk you are faced not only with making tough decisions of your own but you must also fight with your own company to maintain the integrity of your station and executing those decisions from your boss, and your boss’s boss. Most of the time it is an extremely rewarding job. Often times it is a very tough job. Randy is one of the best PD’s I have ever worked for and with. Jack still called him a friend until the end. That SHOULD tell you a lot about both of them.

As I type this, Randall is on WUNC-FM talking about how great Jack was and how he met him when RB was 16 and all this happiness.  This is PATHETIC!  How about standing up for your hero when it mattered?  How about having some integrity and telling your boss you could not fire one of the best jocks who ever cracked a mike?  Some of you guys who are defending RB, GIVE ME A NAME!  I WANT THE NAME OF THE LOW-LIFE SUIT WHO MADE RANDALL BLISS FIRE JACK ARMSTRONG!

The moves that RB made after that helped kill Oldies 93, so his credibility ain't much.  I would rip my own liver out before ANYBODY could make me FIRE my HERO!

His name is Brent Millar and he doesn't care a bit for radio, just money and himself.  He doesn't follow radio history or know much about the past, just money. He doesn't even know what the FCC is all about or any clue about rules and regs, just money and himself.  But Randy has ZERO backbone and is just happy to have a job and will do whatever it takes to stay on.

Ya this is sad how these people are.

Why do we need fighting in a thread to honor Jack?
No real fighting here and in a way Jack had fought this battle for the last part of his time in radio.  We would talk on how it is "all gone" and for what, big corporate owners who don't know a thing about the biz. Ya, go ahead and bitch but the truth cannot go away.

THIS IS EVERYTHING IN A NUTSHELL!

We bitch and we bitch on these boards about how radio sucks and it's cookie-cutter, etc.  And here a guy (RB) has a chance to make a stand and say "ENOUGH!  You can fire one of the greatest jocks of all time in an idiotic corporate BS move, BUT I WON'T!".

...and he (RB) sold like a champ.

Now, multiply that a million times across the land and you have the crappy radio we have today.

But, pardon me, where are my manners:  I am keeping the RB apologists from making their excuses.  GO BOYS!

ditto head - at least get the subject of your rant's name right.  No sense in bashing
the wrong guy.  Credibility......gone!

Jack was one of the all-time great jocks.  Was he a relevant morning man in 2005?
I can't say, I didn't hear him.  How we're his ratings compared to the rest of the station?
Listeners usually decide, through ratings, how you're doing and how long you'll be there.
Jack knew this better than anyone.  Look at the number of call letters on his resume.

But, thanks to Jack for the great memories.

So sad to bash - John is dead.  Corp makes changes.  Get over it!  It had nothing to do with John's passing!
