Don't have any first-hand info on 1240, but heard the horror stories from some of those who worked there....

Bottom lines:  Air America is a failure.  1240 has a bad signal.  Bad signals and lousy programming?  Boy, you have to be one hell of a salesperson to make anything out of that. And how will music...gospel or otherwise...sound coming from that weak, broken stick?

Not too hard when all you have is 1 (and maybe half) of another local show....then yea put the rest on the bird

So being fair maybe she did make some logical moves, but based on her overall body of work and leadership, she failed, and to blame anyone else is just ignorance or ego.

New format...but the constant is who is in charge...give it 6 months, and you will hear the same old thing, can't sell, it is the churches fault, I did all I could...

While it's true that Paula Nelson could have done differently, let's give her credit for what she did do--and did well.

KSAC was one of the first stations in the country to launch Air America.  Nelson then put together a pretty good line-up of programs, including the Christine Craft show, which was always well done.  The station talked about and acted on local issues and the PSA's were relevant, rather than just filler.  The station developed a following and even began to unite many fractured liberal groups.  It was popular enough that Entercom (KCTC) took the KSAC package (or stole it) and essentially copied it--with some changes.  Enid Goldstein ran against Christine Craft, but Craft beat Goldstein not only in the ratings but also in the depth of relevant issues, national and local.

When KCTC took Air America, Nelson brought Ed Shultz who often beat Air America in ratings.  And Nelson was smart enough to bring back Mike Malloy, who had a huge following in Sacramento.

Of course, there were things that I never understood, such as leaving Air America at 6pm and going to the Bev Smith show....oh well...

Paula may not be the most business savy, but let's give her credit where it's due.

And, no, I'm NOT a member of her family or one of her friends  Smiley

I'll give her credit debt. That's the only credit I'll give her.

With the change to gospel, does this end the Sharks coverage in core Sacramento market??
I guess you'll have to listen to KAHI in Auburn for playoff coverage.

Yes, probably...   But KAHI (950am) in Auburn does carry most, if not all, of the Sharks hockey games as well as the Kings and Oakland A's.  I listen to the games quite a bit.

OK.  Let me get this straight.  Just because some of you never listened to KSAC, that means that no one else listened to it either?  Is that what some of you really think?  I've been a faithful, daily listener for the past 3 years!!  And many of my friends were too!  I loved Christine and was just sick when she didn't come back.  Then, imagine my surprise when my radio came on at 6:00 am last Monday morning and it was gospel instead of my beloved Stepanie Miller!!!  It was like being in an alternate universe!  The only good thing about KSAC being destroyed is that I NEVER have to listen to that dumb bunny, Michelle Fay, TRY to read the news ever again!  Is she related to Paula?  Because she certainly cannot read the news or even sting two coherent words together!!  Well, guess what, Paula?  I can stream my favorite shows on the internet and I don't need YOU for that!  So, I hope everyone enjoys the gospel music -- I'll be streaming Stephanie and the Mooks, thank you very much!!
