Lemonade-Pepper and Sandwix pretty much summed it up in their posts. I could not agree more with the things they said. If you worked first  hand with her, you know the true story. She did like people who stroked her ego, and those who treated her like she was a normal person (which celebrities usually would appreciate by the way) or she was unnecessarily, insecurely threatened by, she basically S#!T on. I always wished she would find some peace in her life and the GENUINE people who surrounded her, but sadly that did not happen. I would have loved to meet up with her in 10 years and find her in a happy place. So lets not "urinate on someone's grave" but let this be a lesson to you. BE NICE to the people in your life and who are there to help you. Or this kind of talk could happen to you.

By the way, sandwix...a Medical professional and radio? If that is true, that narrows things way down. HA!!! But Great info. Thanks.

I'm not here to urinate on anybody, but I happen to catch an article on her in todays (4/7) Philly Inquirer about a DJ that died twice. It seemed like before the Bay Area.....she was a real screwball over there as well. It's amazing how she made it as far as she did. I asked myself, why didn't I have the guts tp pull something like that to get into big markets. The main things I do know about her was she came to KBIG doing a weekend Disco show that was turning out alright for her. Well enough for her next stop a morning gig at the 70's station. She seemed to have moderate or marginal ratings until her last book at KBIG (before they switch format and call letters) where her show went from something like 20th to 2nd place in the arbitrons.
And that's what prolonged her career in the Bay Area to KSAN. But I copied the article for everyone before it's not there the next day....... Here it Is.... "Her Moment Of Truth".

Karin Begin, a former Philadelphia disc jokey and pathological liar of epic proportions, has reportedly died.

Again.

I was emailed this thread and was stunned by some of the things said here.  The Philly story included in the thread was obviously biased, as the writer "discloses".  As for Darian being an actress, she was indeed in some films and was on Canadian TV (I have seen her reels).  As for someone having access to or logging in to her myspace page or web page, well...duh.  She had friends, family and co-workers just like any other radio, tv, or film personality does, helping her or being a part of her life, work and goals.  oohhh...how mysterious!

Many of you and others you know tried creative and desperate things to get the jobs they had early in their careers.  Many a person embellishes (and lies) to get a job, and often that is encouraged and gambled on in the entertainment industry, often with the creativity of it judged!  Many of us come from Crap-ola, USA and will take desperate measures to spread our wings and fly.  Truth is, she really had talent, charisma and guts.  Debate it as you may, to be adored or hated is much better than being vanilla.  She did some stupid things, but she did some clever things too -  and she had the brass balls to go up against a good ol' boys club that is still very commonplace.  She entertained a lot of people, and had a lot of fans.

She also had problems, but look at the world you guys are in!  All the pot shots, all the bs, all the double standards, the fake fights, the real fights, the out and out stupidity and fart jokes and T&A.  It's no wonder many of your health care providers issue a special medical card for alcohol and substance abuse or mental health issues.

Just like anyone, she had friends that were close and acquaintance, star f8ckers and concerned, good people. Just like anyone on the planet she had good and bad relationships and not being able to pick her death day, she was unable to right some wrongs.  She was a sister, and a daughter, and a close friend to some people too.   It is really a shame that she isn't here to defend any of the high minded BS posted here.  Does it make you feel better posting this stuff?  Does it help get you through your day?

In the meantime, there ARE real people that are sad, hurting and upset.   What a bunch of bullies.  Why don't you get back to WORK on making some GOOD radio instead of wasting time on discussing someone you don't like or who you classify as "irrelevant" or someone of moral ineptitude?  Give me a break.

Hey....Old Radio Girl....Now While I understand...(I myself was one of the people asking others to back off and respect her family)....I take exception to your sarcastic comment about my mention that it was interesting that someone has access to her Myspace page.   Your point is well taken that people would help out, but I've looked at myspace pages as private in the same vein as personal email.

Please understand...I have a lot of respect for her what she was able to accomplish and that she had guts and an enormous amount of talent. The one time I did have a conversation with her back in 2000, she came across as warm and friendly.

Old Radio Girl....Your tone isn't much better than some of the other scathing comments on the boards.   It's sad that a life has ended way to soon.   We all need to be respectful.

Hi Darian.

Let us know when this stunt is over.

And, can you let us know what Bay Area TV station was going to sign you to a deal?

Truly.   I think on balance this has been a fascinating thread.  Just a few people trashed her, a number of us - myself included - defended her in the way that we knew her - either as a colleague, a friend, or a listener; and quite a few people gave the rest of us a balanced "warts-and-all" look at Darian/Karen as a person...the good and bad. 'Lemon-Pepper' said some things that were truly touching.

It's your privilege to call us "sick," OLG - but not justified by the thoughtful things said here.

You are right.  There are some nice things said here and I apologize for not biting my tongue.  I unfortunately read a bunch of this stuff here and other places and it caused a lot of upset.  After awhile it's easy to forget what came from where, what site, etc.

DougR - I wish it were true, but I'm actually in touch with her family. It's confirmed.

She wasn't all bad.  She was there for me (and perhaps lots of you) when others weren't. She created opportunities for many people who would otherwise be turned away.  Many who have gone on to broader careers.  Respect to those of you that chose the high ground when it is so easy to be sucked into the potential negativity that can pull you the other way.

Cheers,

Good..... I'm glad your now done menstruating your venom. I'm also glad in your mind that this post, thread, or article that was linked, is nothing but a guy thing. (Even though the article was published or written by a woman.) And while writing that article for the newspaper, she probably had some alcohol content in her bloodstream, otherwise I don't think she would have been so negative.
First of all...I linked it just for the point of interest for people who worked or listened to her on the air. There were rumours or facts I wanted the postees on her to read.  I only added my thoughts of what I only know from listening to her on the air.    Talent? Mostly everybody has talent from somewhere....but it all depends on how you use it. Apparently she was self destructive. Do I hate her for it? I don't know her.
But she became a public figure, and when your in the media......you know what your signing up for. Ask Hillary.  Now let's look at some of your other ignorant comments.

Many of you and others you know tried creative and desperate things to get the jobs they had early in their careers.  Many a person embellishes (and lies) to get a job, and often that is encouraged and gambled on in the entertainment industry

And many of people get terminated at their real jobs when they lie. Even once. When we vote for a politician in office....they have alot of responsibility when your dealing with the public. And the last thing this country needs is a liar to represent them, let alone on a major radio station.

This was the part of that was unbelievable. All of us are in her world. Were all alcoholics aren't we. Of course I'm the only guy that doesn't don't drink at all, and in these days it's hard to find a woman that does not have a cigarette blowing smoke rings in her mouth. And I hate to say...that's mostly white women for example.  As far her personality on the air...she came across as some lewd wild whewwww! party chick...that type you see at a club half drunk, swearing, gossiping, and thinks she's a star because the guys want a piece of her when it's closing time. And there usually the girls that are from attractive or hotties to become hell or your worst nightmare. Just look up real close and there's another pre-mature wrinkle from this free spirited party life style. And another pound gained. From Brittany to Rosie, by the time there 25. I've seen it often or alot...self - destructing, and that's my observation of this Disc Jockey that passed away. Do I hate her? Of course not. I don't know her. She didn't do anything wrong to me.  But it seems like alot younger woman emaulate this type, and that's we have alot of women walking around that qualify to become Jerry Springerettes. I'll take the girls from China anyday.

You must understand...were judging her as a public figure or a celebrity as you may want to call it...we don't know her as a personal friend or a workmate. So when I criticize her or thought the article (written by a woman) was disturbing...I'm only consuming what is fed to me by someone who did ties, know or worked with her. As far as a woman in radio...she's not Sue Hall. As far as a good or bad person...I'm not judging.

Oh by the way admin....can we get some new colors like fuchsia. Thanks.

While I wouldn't say I knew her well, I did know her some and knew others who were close to her very well.
From reading through all these posts, I can say they ALL have elements of truth in various degrees. In the end, as all who knew her would likely agree, she turned out to be a fatally flawed person.

I guess what is difficult to understand is why people would use her death as an opportunity to trash her for
all her missteps, fabrications and weaknesses. I feel that is a HUGE character flaw in those lost souls who
choose to annonymously post inflamatory statements, make that JUDGEMENTS, about a person they didn't know or barely knew, and post it on a msg board that is seen by anyone with a hankering to log on.

Controversial to the end though, eh? She had a flair, no doubt about it...was at her best at BIG98 and was
never able to recapture that momentum. A sad life, potential wasted...but as someone else mentioned
here...Darian was not mentally sound. It's a sad world that people enjoy ridiculing someone who had obvious
mental health issues.

Would you be so brave to stand by your comments with your name attached for the
world to see? How well would YOU fair after death? Would your friends post that you were a
caring compassionate person? What if YOUR industry had an annonymous board to post gossip
and inflamatory comments about you...how would you fair? Don't answer too quickly.

You kind of answered your own question. She had mental health problems. Put aside her death....would you vote for a president that has mental problems. Would you want your kids in the same room as a teacher , with mental health problems. Or would you want someone running or representing your business (even if it's a radio station) with mental problems.
If she was still alive and on the air today with mental health problems...people would wonder what the hell is she doing on the air in the first place. Not what kind of person she is off the air.  It's not like she has some hidden office administration or retail job, where she is unknown to the public.  She's present in front of the whole city that can easily tune her in.
People get frustrated (especially in a business like this) that would like to have or given the chance where she has been, and instead see's someone like her who gets the priviledge of F******up more then once.
