All this talk of ratings and no one mentions WIBC and their huge move!

Clearly didn't bother to read the first page of this thread, did you?

Or the entire thread dedicated to the IBC/FNI move?

With such crisply astute powers of observation, we're dying to hear your insights. Roll Eyes

AM=Ancient Modulation.  Last one out turn off the lights.  AM will in most part pick up the crumbs of listenership.

The IBC move was a no-brainer for success.  They have  many loyal listeners and a format appropriate for the time.  Even though the FM does not reach as far as 1070 does during the day, they saturate the Metro and surrounding areas really well.

No matter what personal beef some here have with Mr. Oasis, you cannot deny that the switch to oldies, as an obvious format "hole" in the market, was a good decision.  Oldies has good track record in the market, and WKLU is doing it better and better as the days go by. When the March diaries replace the December diaries to make the WI book complete, KLU will most certainly continue to trend up.
WXNT AM ticked up a bit in the second 30 day rolling average, about a 1/2 share. That's quite a jump in a 30 day trend for a station that typically doesn't see much change in rolling averages.  Could they actually be picking up a small portion of WIBC's disenfranchised AM listeners?
It may be a bit early to think that WARM is having any serious impact on B105; however, I wouldn't dismiss WARM eroding some of B's audience over the long haul.  There's nothing much exciting about either station; yet given a new choice, you have to believe some B audience would migrate if for no other reason than being bored with only B as an option for years. Personally, I would like to see WARM, Hank, and any other direct format competitors to the top stations have a bit more success.  When too much audience share is loaded at the top, radio [and revenue] stagnates.

WIBC-FM not only transistioned well, but it looks like they went up a little, too.

Impressive.

But why is their so much Antipathy towards WKLU on this board? It is very suspicious, way to much emotion involved for people who don’t have a vested interest in this organization. Any ideas?

Perhaps, but Oasis has a tendency/history of opening big, then dying a slow death. He overtweaks his formats and eventually kills them. He shot way up when competing against Q95 - all of his 'board names' came out calling himself the KING of rock radio - only to die off when he got scared and started playing 'Sweet Home Alabama.'

Give it time, one book does not make a successful format.

Radioindy, In this world there are 2 kinds of people, those who build and those who tear down.  Which one are you?
You are now outed for being a burned out jock and former employee of WKLU.

Maybe your attitude was the problem, not your wmployer.  Weren't you always tearing down the station from the
inside?  Disrespecting the man who paid your check?  Did you know you have a history of hurting people who
once trusted, respected, and admired you?

"AGAIN - Simply DO YOUR HOMEWORK and use the SEARCH button provided. It's no fun reliving all this. It cannot be explained in a sentence, if you have not been a part of this board over the past year, you'll need to spend some time researching.

[EDIT]

It appears that group therapy is still in session. Radioindy, No, I am not a station owner nor do I play one on television.

In the not to distant future their will be two kinds of employees. Those who make the company money and those who save the company money. Everyone else, will be unemployable, this is just the way it is.  Furthermore, change will occur more rapidly than ever before, competition will get fiercer than ever before and customers will become more demanding than ever before. Today, everyone is an interim employee. This isn’t just radio; it's the reality of the workplace. Their is an old saying "you haven’t worked in radio unless you've been fired at least once." You’re obviously a bitter ex-employee of this company.

See, not EVERYONE that comments negatively on this board is a 'bitter ex-employee.' We are free to criticize others in this country. I am currently in sales NOT in the radio industry. In other words, I wised up a long time ago and chose the world of STABILITY!

But back to the point, if you work/have worked in this market for any length of time, you are not only limited to communication with those that work in your building/station. I know many ex and a couple current employees at WKLU - to a man/woman they ALL love the quality of the facility, but are ALL are negative about ownership.

So to say an independent should be heralded for simply making the attempt, despite the fact he curses out employees in a psychotic fashion, is ridiculous and short-sighted (in other words, it's the excuse of the same guy who uses several different screen names to defend himself.)

All are free to criticize format selection, music selection, production quality/execution and management style are ALL FREE GAME on a board like this. But I don't think everyone this board is a bitter ex-WKLU employee, yet anyone who knows anyone that has worked there knows there has yet to be ONE POSITIVE OPINION that I've heard from people who have worked at KLU, or currently work there.

now, the three of you at the top of KLU can now come on here and defend your leader, and insult all the rest of us. I'm sure it's coming.

GO HOOSIERS! (Colts, too)

The ratings link posted at the beginning of this thread have WKLU at 3.8 and WNTR (The Track) 3.3.
Considering WKLU has much less power, what do you call that?  An ass whipping!

1. nobody looks at 12+
2. WKLU's February extrap was their lowest 25-54 share since Nov
3. WKLU ranks 9th 25-54, behind WNTR, WJJK and WFBQ, their main competitors.

The *ass whipping* is being APPLIED TO WKLU.  At least, do your homework.

Where's the discussion about ratings?  How about WFBQ is back in 2nd?  How about WFMS is back
in double digits?  What about the success of WIBC FM?

Does every thread on here have to turn into a Russ, WKLU bashing thread?
