Religion. Yeah, that's the ticket.  Another religious station to fill the shortage in the Syracuse, Utica-Rome area.

Not sure what they'll change to, but I can believe it that their ratings have fallen so far.  I pretty much stopped listening to them once they became "All 80s Hair Metal All the Time."  Memo to new Citadel GM: There's a REASON why nobody wanted to hear that stuff anymore once Nirvana and Pearl Jam came on the scene...

All the posts in this thread are talking about 95X as if it's going to change format for sure.  So, here's my question:  Do any of you know for sure that WAQX WILL FOR SURE change format?  Does someone have an official memo on that?  I doubt it.  If not, then, it's okay.  It's fun to speculate, but when you do so, it is a good idea to make it known that you are mirely speculating, and not basing this on fact.  Thank you.

Now, as for my speculation on an X format change:  Country... Not like B104, but rather like Ctadel's "JR" station in Scranton, PA, which plays a mix of Classic and new country.

That country-rock format wasn't what you'd call a winner in Dallas... and if that doesn't fly in Dallas, it's not likely to get off the ground in Syracuse.  I have no idea what 95X would change to, if it changes at all.  From what I've heard, it's stuck between a rock and a hard place, literally and figuratively.  It's a schizophrenic radio station, bouncing between Classic Rock, 80's hair bands and active rock.

And it sounds like it needs a morning show.  A good morning show, one that doesn't have to rely on hacking chicks as sidekicks and the usual dick jokes either.  I think X could get some decent ratings with a live, local, music intensive show with service features like traffic, weather and news.  Here's a thought.  Make those newscasts credible rather than the latest tripe on Paris Hilton.  Then maybe some of those 40-60 year old Men who dig Classic Rock but forsake X to get their news on WSYR or NPR might stick around.

Some have suggested here that the station needs a real PD who can lead with passion, creativity and street smarts.

Seems Citadel has a decision to make: It's either Active or Classic Rock.  One or the other.  The sooner they make the decision, the better off they'll be.  Personally, I'd choose Classic Rock.  But I paint houses for a living, so what the hell do I know?  Only what I hear, and what I've heard on X isn't what I'd expect from a group owner like Citadel.

For those of you who think that WAQX needs a local morning show with some news, and some good jokes, I've got news for ya:  It's already been tried.  Anyone remember "B**ner and Ken?"  I do.  It wasn't that bad of a show.  It played music, had some news, and  wasn't as male oriented as Howard Stern.

As far as the future of WAQX,, I think it's over for them.  I think they need to change formats.  However, I don't think they'll do that.  Instead, I bet ya that they'll just leg along with the same ol' thing, and live in denial about their listenership and ratings, and continue to pretend that they're still somewhat successful.

Jeremy, I know you're kinda new here.  People don't really come out and say if they're speculating or not.  It's up to you to "read into" people as to whether they're serious or just joking around.  Sometimes it's a mix of both.  In most cases, if something is a proven fact, it's stated pretty clearly, and links to supporting "proof" are provided when possible.  Sometimes (but rarely) someone will post something that's blatently not true, but it's usually so outrageous that it's obvious... as in, if you have common sense, you don't need it explained.  ;-)

A "tweak" here or there isn't going to matter.
Dude,it's a 1.7 for Chrissakes! You could double the ratings and still be by far the third rock station in town.
Who needs three rock stations in Syracuse? Nobody.
A hot country format without 80 year old jocks like B would cripple B and make stablemate 93Q number one every time. The new GM is rumored to be very smart so let's all just wait and see.
