Kim Collins to WZLX PT weekends

I hope you'll tune into 100.7 WZLX...I'll start on the air there next Sunday Noon-5!


So I guess she is out at Greater Media and going to CBS Bostons Classic Rock.

I got the same message.  I'm happy for her.  I'm assuming "next Sunday" means a week from this Sunday.  I hope I remember.  I never listen to WZLX and rarely listen to the radio on Sunday afternoons (esp during baseball season).  Kim isn't listed amongst their weekend staff on WZLX.com yet.

Congratulations to Kim!

Now, I hope they pay her something reasonable. I think it's a shame that some of the weekend overnighters are getting paid around miniumum wage by a major-market CBS station just for the "privilege" of being on 'ZLX.

I know it's ultimately their choice, and the experience may be worth it in other ways, but I've board-opped at failing AM stations for (a little) more than minimum wage in the past.

I get SIGNIFICANTLY more than min. wage for "board op'ing" where I do fill in, and the extent of my day, besides being there to resolve the once a year problem, is playing on the internet for 58 minutes an hour.
Well maybe there is more to it that that but in reality it is an easy gig, the clients are nice. None of us are making six figures, but we are compensated fairly.

Luckily my GM impressed upon the suits in NYC the value of what we do early on. I guess that's why I am the only person to have resigned in the last 4 years, and even then I still do some work for the company.

I don't get the glory of putting major market station experience on my resume like some of you get to do though.

It would appear to be more of an experience thing. Overnighters are typically newbies (read: little experience), so it is fair to say they are pretty lucky to get a gig in a bigger city like this. When I started out, I got crap shifts and crap pay and took every opportunity to be on and to improve.

yep the pay sucks, and yes the experience is beneficial, which is why I don't complain...this will eventually help me land my first fulltime gig (sooner rather than later I'd hope)...but being on air at a station like ZLX really is something special and I'm quite thankful to have some good luck thrown my way while working my butt off to get there.
