Sunny Sets Thursday
« on: August 22, 2005, 12:11:51 PM »

From AllAccess.com:

Rumors become reality as CLEAR CHANNEL AC KEGL (SUNNY 97.1)/DALLAS will flip to Regional Mexican as 97-1 LA PRECIOSA focusing on hits from the 70's , 80's, and 90's on THURSDAY morning at 6a (CT).

97-1 LA PRECIOSA will be 100% Spanish language and broadcast the format "live" utilizing the LA PRECIOSA NETWORK and have ANNA DE HARRO in DALLAS with local news and information. ALEX LUCAS will host the morning show "live" and is the program director of the format. JAMIE ALEJANDRO will be joining us as Operations Manager and afternoon drive based in DALLAS, coming in from KSJO/SAN JOSE.

CLEAR CHANNEL Regional VP/GM & DALLAS Market Mgr. J.D. FREEMAN told ALL ACCESS, "CLEAR CHANNEL has had terrific success with this format in BAKERSFIELD, SAN JOSE, and LAS VEGAS where the format is currently #1 25-54. And, we've had comparable success in MONTEREY, SANTA BARBARA, and SANTA MARIA, CA. This is a significant commitment to serve the Hispanic community in DALLAS-FT. WORTH. I'm extremely excited about the future of the station."

Leaving the station are morning man EDDIE COYLE, and air personalities STACEY JAMES, and RACHEL EVERSON.

At this rate, in five years English-language stations (particularly music) in DFW will be relegated to FM fringe signals or, worse yet, just the AM band.  Thank goodness for satellite radio... at least you can still hear English-language programming there.

This is why I dont listen to "terrestrial" radio myself. If im called a bigot because I think they're should be more choice than "ranchera" and "Romantica",then label me one (and we all know dave eduardo will). Wheres the asian and black communities in this argurment, as their not being properly represented as well??

Radioaircheck: So who do you think will be the next one to change formats in DFW?

It is a reflection of the rapidly growing Hispanic population in the DFW area and the growing popularity of many of the stations that service that population.

7-11 stores check their inventory nearly every night to see what their customers want. If the customers aren't buying an item, or a similar item sells better, the store changes.

Radio is no different because, first and foremost, it is a business.

And remember, early on, many on this board, predicted that Sunny would not survive.

Sadly for many of its employees, that prediction has proved accurate.
