WSVX, Shelbyville,IN Translator
« on: July 04, 2008, 08:27:14 AM »

Looks like WSVX 1520 Shelbyville,IN has their upgraded translator on the air. 150W ERP at over 300' HAAT on 96.5. As you could imagine, this one is well beyound your typical 27 watt translator on a 100' stick. I can tell what song is playing in the car at 20 miles in some directions & Ralph in Muncie is hearing it fine at 50+ miles. Anybody else hearing this one?

When I started in radio in 1967, most broadcast equipment used tube technology, all recorded music was played from records on a turntable by live DJ's, there was no satellite delivery...and radio was fun.

No on the translator, but I've heard WSVX many times here in Alabama, at night.

I was able to hear 96.5 all the way from Columbus to the south side of Indy on I-65.  The signal in Columbus
is about the same as 96.3 WJAA Austin.  In Franklin it came in better than WHHH.   Pretty impressive.
I'd say with the addition of this FM translator, they have made their station much more likely to survive.
