WFAE goes Jazz on HD2
« on: July 30, 2008, 04:10:50 PM »

WFAE HD2 has picked up the traditional Jazz format abandoned by South Carolina ETV's WNSC 88.9.   WXPN Philadelphia's Xponetial Radio format of Adult Alternative Rock that had been on HD2 moves down to WFAE-HD3 and replaces BBC World service. Note the audio quality on HD3 is somewhat less than HD1 and HD2.

I discovered this today while scanning  stations on my one HD radio so I have no idea how long the format has been in place on WFAE-HD2.  Fans of traditional Jazz music should know that decent Stereo HD Radios can now be found at retailers such as Best Buy and Radio Shack.

The big question is: will HD radio catch on or go the way of AM Stereo?  Only time will tell.  Many NPR stations were quick to start broadcasting in HD with multiple formats including WFAE.  WFAE is the only Charlotte FM right now using 3 separate streams.

WFAE has been airing Jazz on HD-2 since Monday...Washburn wrote an article in the Observer about it...

WPEG-HD is running 3 streams. WPEG on the main, an older urban format on HD-2 and WFNZ on HD-3...

You're right forgot about WPEG brain glitch!  Thanks!

Shows I haven't been reading the paper!

I would have preferred Smooth Jazz since WBAV-HD2's Smooth Jazz is more Urban than Jazz but ya can't win 'em all.  There's always Watercolors anyway.
