Changes for KXBL-Big Country 99.5
« on: July 26, 2008, 10:33:32 PM »

Rumor has it that the axe has fallen again at Journal.  Eric Wayne was released from his duties at Big Country 99.5 on Friday.  He was doing afternoons at KVOO until they hired Luke Dawg and moved him to Big Country mornings.  Word has it that the "powers" on high are going to satellite programming for all dayparts but syndicated shows, Billy Parker's show and the Sunday Gospel show on the weekends.  Is that the sound of the financial belt I hear tightening at Journal again?!?

Sattelite? Well, there's a quick way to ruin a good station.

I think they have Maestro in their stations... why wouldn't they just let the Maestro pony run? Can you programming guys give me an advantage that satellite has over running Maestro? No music log to create, perhaps? Easier maintenance? What do you think?

Yea, they have Maestro there.  They've been running voice tracked for middays, afternoons and evenings for a long while.  They also run on the box overnights.  You may get better talent with satellite...maybe...but you will really lose the local feel.  In days when you need all the "local" you can get, I don't think satellite is the way to go.  Also, with sat. programming, you've got relay closures, bumps, stabs and liners to record and make sure they fire well.  Plus, if you listen to KVOO at night they are satellite with Whitney Allen.  The sat. fades out constantly.  So there are drops in audio and it makes it even more evident that KVOO isn't "local" either.  Satellite programming is more maintenance.

Sorry to hear about Eric and the rest of the crew at Big Country 99.5.  It's always tough when a gig evaporates for one reason or another.  It's just the times gang.  Super bad economy, sales down everywhere even if you're the market leader in sales, sales are still substantially down.
Eric is a great talent and I have no doubt he will land on his feet very soon.  As for The Ol' Hoot Owl, he is a very gifted broadcaster who can work in a variety of media.  Ace Doggett will continue to persue his goals and I wish him the very best.
It sucks, it's sad and I feel for them but it's just the damned times we live in.  No use making the GM the bad guy here.  He follows orders too.  Hell, every station in town uses satellite to some extent.

I personally think sat programming sucks. I'd rather just hear a local jukebox than hear the bird...  Most sat programming sounds like they are trying to sound live and local when it's obvious they aren't. Sat programming was ok back in the days computer automation wasn't so good but at this point I just look at it as dated crap.

Guy-
You couldn't possibly be more right.  It's just an absolute travesty.  I compare it to black and white television with rabbit ears.

How in the HELL can you take a good station and turn it into this SH!T. I can't listen to it anymore it has the worst imaging I have ever heard and don't get me going on the DJs. Who ever did this needs his [EDIT] That was the only station I ever listen to but not anymore, you know they could have made alot of money if they would have just put a little money in it and not so much in to KVOO and KFAQ. This is the first mad post I have ever put on the internet but I just can't believe this has happened. Well I can't do anything about it oh I can I will NEVER listen again.  Angry

RIP BIG COUNTRY 99.5  Cry
