KELR 105.3 MOVE'S TOWER
« on: November 09, 2008, 04:14:27 PM »

And I ask why.  I understand palen was paid to move the tower site, but how does this benefit kelr???  Pulling out of des moines a dumb move and they were doing good in warren county.  I've also heard it was to bring kelr closer to the ottumwa area for better coverage of the st. louis cardinals.  They can't actually think they're going to sell much advertising in the ottumwa area, that market has so much media as it is with kyou the fox station, ktvo, the courier, the greg list cluster and kmgo seems to be doing well in ottumwa as well.  Kelr seemed to have been rebounding a bit in the past few years with the addition of casey kasem the 70's, website promotions, and local sports coverage, now thats all but gone.  KIIC in albia has stolen kelrs advertisers and is doing well in sports.  And kelr.com doesn't exist any more, what happened there i wonder?   Undecided

I don't think their move has been canceled. they filed a license to cover last month. KDLS-FM appears to have upgraded. I'm getting MUCH stronger signals where I live and very strong (compared to before) on the west side of the metro . IF KELR indeed has moved, i'm getting the same approximate reception where i live in northern warren county... so ... i don't think this was a bad thing for KELR

I doubt KELR ever made much of an impact into the Des Moines market, and I don't think there's way it and KDLS could both have been made into Des Moines signals.  It's certainly a good deal for Tom Palen, as he will have an additional signal in Ottumwa.  I don't live there any longer, but I'd be curious to hear how the coverage is in Ottumwa, especially down in the river valley.

The irony of all of these new signals is that there are still three ownership groups that matter in Ottumwa.  In 1980 it was KLEE AM/FM, KBIZ, and KMGO.  Today it is KLEE/KOTM/KELR, KBIZ/KTWA/KKSI/KRKN, and KMGO.

I saw on Northpine today that KELR is being sold to the owners of KMGO.  Might this be the new home for KMGO if 98.7 is sold after the upgrade?
