WHBF no longer on DISH Network
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:53:18 PM »

Not after 7/31/2008, and all I've seen on my gramdmother's TV ever since is the same message accusing WHBF-TV of being unreasonable.  But the station claims on whbf.com that what it's asking is fair....Is this happening anywhere else (besides the QC, that is)?

Yes, it affects all of Citadel's stations... KCAU, Sioux City... WOI, Ames... KLKN, Lincoln.

It's hard saying how long this dispute might last. WBRZ in Baton Rouge, Louisiana has been off of DISH Network since May 1 of this year (3 full months now), for the same reason, and still no agreement. And due to copyright infringements, DISH is prohibited from making available distant network affiliates.....so they can't even supply one of those as a replacement, even if they wanted to.

Update on the situation, with a snippet from WHBF's website follows. The fact they give people options so they don't miss premiere week (which isn't for another 6 weeks!) gives me the feeling this could drag on for awhile.

Our company has presented several proposals to DISH in the spirit of reaching an accommodation only to have each of those proposals rejected to date. Our most recent counter-proposal was submitted last Thursday, August 7 and DISH has "gone silent" since then. In short, we have attempted to reason with DISH in a good faith manner and compromised about as much as we can consistent with responsible business practices. I am less hopeful than I was a week ago that we can reach a fair and equitable carriage agreement with DISH.

That leaves our DISH viewers with a couple of options. You may wish to seriously consider other satellite (e.g., DirecTV) and cable providers which continue to carry CBS4 without interruption. Or you may want to explore the use of an antenna to receive CBS4 over the air as many viewers have told us they've already done. Any of these options will ensure that you don't miss the upcoming season premieres of popular CBS primetime programs such as How I Met Your Mother, Two And A Half Men, CSI, Survivor, Cold Case, or The Unit.
