One of the best shows on in Tulsa is the Retro Pop Show on Mix. They start Saturday night at 6pm. The music is 80s and 90s based and the production value is awesome. I think it comes from the same people that do the Open House Party Shows. I think it is live too.
I wish they would do the same show with a local host with only Tulsa area requests. With some of the great jocks up there, why can't they just do it local. Imagine Mel, Wavy or Chuck doing the show live and local. That would be fun.
Certainly they can hire someone to host the show from the studios at 71st & Yale. Now that would be fun!

The Retro Pop Reunion is very good... but it is NOT live.
As to why Mel, Wavy, or Chuck can't do it: Cox doesn't want to spend the money to have anyone live on the air after 7pm.
(That's not just Mix, it's not just Tulsa, and it's not just Cox.)

Wow..
I have got to say that thanks to O'Shea for his kind words. I totally respect what everyone's opinions are, however pure speculation is mainly what I see here. Classic Top 40 is a very new concept especially to Tulsa radio. It takes quite a bit of time for a station to find it's "Voice" and being that we a little over a year and a half old, it may be a bit early to say this is an "in-between format". I grew up here as a teenager, I know what I heard in heavy rotation on 14K,92K,FM 96,Queen95 and K-107. These are not my favs, these are the songs that were hits all over the radio especially in Tulsa. There is such intense passion for this station from the current listenership that it is hard to ignore. I can't say that 500 diaries really represent what people listen to.

I thought the Ryan Seacrest thing was a JOKE, guess not. There it is on the website. That will be interesting to hear and see what it does.

Kevan,
Welcome aboard! You've stepped into the lion's den... which takes a lot of courage.
You're on the inside there so you know better than we do what you're hearing from listeners... I hope for your sake and the sake of the station that you are right.
I also hope if it's not where it needs to be today (obviously a commonly shared opinion by many here), that some of the posts might help in the efforts to make it better... and I hope they let you do what needs to be done to make it truly successful!
It would have been very easy to come in here very defensively and say all kinds of nasty things; through your one posting, my admiration for you has grown.
The best of luck to you, sir!

I'm not slapping your hand but that is not true. And that's all I have to say about that.

Matt, Aw, c'mon... slap my hand! Really? I suppose specifically Mel & Dave don't do a Saturday night all-request show because they have families and because they don't have to (and bless them for it)... but the only live person at Cox Tulsa after 7pm is the board-op on KRMG, right? (I assume they still have somebody on the board after 7 at KRMG...) Does Cox have anybody live on the board after 7? I'm not jumping Cox about this (although it personally annoys me); quite a few Tulsa stations flip the lights off and go home after 7. Clear Channel is a ghost town in the middle of the day....But are you telling my Cox WILL pay to have somebody live after 7? I love ya like a brother, Matt, but I gotta call your hand on this one...

Matt, I trust you. I have no clue what you are talking about, but I know you're not a liar. Therefore, I stand corrected, and apologize. (Although I'd LOVE to see the evidence...) Ladies an gentlemen, I do not know who, when, or how, but Cox WILL pay for someone to be live on the air after 7pm. Please ignore my previous statement, as it was incorrect. (Are you SURE???)

Not sure about current practice, but I did weekends for Mix and K95 for about a year (from 2001 to 2002) and they had me live on 'K' from 6pm to midnight Saturday nights.
So...I don't know about now. But then they did. At that point, Star and Mix were tracked on Saturday nights. But Rock 102.3 was live as well.
