More swapping in the future?
« on: August 06, 2008, 04:56:46 PM »

Here it is again.  Today its been reported that Bonneville, Cumulus, Radio One and Clear Channel all are in the swapping mood over these additional FM signals.

What are your thoughts?

Bonneville would love to move Wolf down the dial to 94.1 (its much more powerful).  Could they in return give First Broadcasting the 97.3 signal for another Max FM?  Then you have 92.5 which CC also needs to get rid of.  How could this play into Cumulus (who cant pick up another FM).  Then Radio One offers to pick up 92.5 and go with some form of Gospel or Jazz format?  Maybe Cumulus swaps out 92.5 for 96.5...and Radio One picks up 96.5?

I just feel bad for those trying to sell advertising. Tough economy withstanding, add the fact that you don't know who owns what station from month to month and what format said station will be and you've got yourself a mess.

If Cumulus is involved in any swapping, I'd have to think they'd be swapping out of Cincinnati, not into it.  After all, the reason Clear Channel was forced to divest is because one of the private equity firms that bought Clear Channel (I think Thomas H. Lee Partners) is also an owner in Cumulus Media Partners.  I can't imagine a Cumulus deal involving those stations would pass DOJ muster unless that private equity firm gets out of CMP.

Actually, Lee AND Bain own part of Cume-less.
Yes, it would be nice if they left.

Could WGRR go classic rock or fully classic hits if Radio One gets 92.5?

Cume-less can still swap all they want, but they cant pick up an additional signal.  What I was meaning is that Cumulus picks up 92.5, and changes it to 92ROCK, making it a Mainstream Rock with Classic Rock thrown in.  It helps protect WGRR and still services the rock audience.  Then dumps out of 96.5 and gives it to Radio One?

Radio One then does some form of Jazz or Gospel on the new 96.5.  Its not as great as a signal, and they could get it for a decent price.

94.1 goes to Bonneville where they locate the Wolf.  And 97.3 goes to First Broadcasting where they put on part of the Max FM trimulcast of 97.3, 97.7 and 99.5

You guys forget that Bonneville can own five FMs in this market.

Coming soon....

94.1 The WOLF  (Bonneville)

92.5 The DRIVE  (Bonneville's Classic Rock format in Chicago)

Smooth Jazz 97.3  (Radio One)

The Bonneville scenario sounds plausible with Radio One or first getting the leftover. I don't  if they'd do smooth jazz or like Columbus, do black Gospel.

In two words:

  Angry TOTAL INSANITY!  Angry

You may as well be a suit flaunting one's arrogance and committing a stupid crime and posting it on You Tube...because after all if you're a suit with big bucks and a title you can get away with murder...am I right gang?

SO ....is CC (with their tongues and Aloha "trusts" hanging out )wanting to swallow up WHIO AM/FM from Cox in order to continue their Fox "news" agenda and Rash Limburgher's hate campaign against Obama?  Stay tuned if you're not nausiated yet.

20 years of excellence? yeah right..the operative phrase should be 20 years of banging one's own drum...but hey he's only an "entertainer."   If Obama is "the new savior" then Rush is the Antichrist! (you've been warned!)

92.5 The Drive would be a great station!  I hope Bonneville does this.
