New Dallas Mavericks Radio/TV Hosts
« on: August 26, 2005, 04:54:39 PM »

Didn't know if this was posted or not, but here it is:

http://www.nba.com/mavericks/news/2005_06_tv_schedule.html

Here is the excerpt that pertains to us:

"Calling all the action on both UPN-21 and FSNSW telecasts are Bob Ortegel and Mark Followill. Ortegel begins his 18th season as the Mavericks TV analyst and first season paired with Followill. Followill joins the TV broadcast this season doing play-by-play after spending four years as the play-by-play voice for the Mavericks on ESPN Radio 103.3 FM.

New to the Mavericks broadcast crew is Chuck Cooperstein. Cooperstein enters his first season as the play-by-play voice of the team on ESPN 103.3 FM. He has been a regular on the Dallas/Fort Worth sports scene since 1984 and has been an anchor on ESPN 103.3 FM since the station’s inception in 2001. For the last two years, he has hosted the Mavericks Insider and Mavs Talk. He will continue to host "SportsNight" weeknights on ESPN Radio. Brad Davis will join Cooperstein on the radio broadcasts. He begins his eighth season as the color analyst."

Makes sense since All Access reported today about Matt Pinto moving to LA the story is as follows:

CLEAR CHANNEL Talk KTLK-A (PROGRESSIVE TALK AM 1150)/LOS ANGELES names MATT PINTO as radio play-by-play voice, replacing MEL PROCTOR, who became the radio voice of the WASHINGTON NATIONALS this Spring. PINTO has been serving as TV voice of the DALLAS MAVERICKS for four seasons and did the team's radio broadcasts before that; when a CLIPS game is not televised, TV team RALPH LAWLER and MICHAEL SMITH will move to radio and PINTO will get the night off.

So I congratulate the HIGH AUTHORITY Chuck Cooperstein, and Mark Followill as they are both TICKET ALUMN and have moved on-- and Mark will now prove most of totally wrong--- since he DOES have the face for TV-- and not just another pretty voice-- (just kidding MARK)...

Good move by the Mavs... Chuck is probably the BEST play by play voice I have heard in many years, I know the networks have used him for College basketball during March Madness.. and of course a couple of stints of TCU Hoops and other teams in and around the metroplex...

I applaud both of you!

Just a thought!

Yeah I heard about it on the Ticket also, Pinto apparently applied for the LA Lakers Radio or TV gig (can't remember which one) and didn't get it, so he decided to do the part time gig with the LA Clippers.

Does this mean that coop will no longer be doing Westwood One games or will he still do those and no longer do his show on ESPN?

I wonder who made the desision.  If it was Scotty Mas, then congrats...you FINNALY got something right.  Chances are, it wasn't.

Another note, did ESPN ever get another Executive Producer/APD since Stennaford bailed?

Word up there Hand.  Pullin the ol Scotty Mas card.  Trust me, it wasn't him making that call, Coop wanted that gig when ESPN first got the Mavs contract and he got passed up.  I can't honestly answer the question dealing with the APD, but in my mind they haven't because they have been trimming salaries there.  They can't afford to replace the people that are now gone.  ABC won't give them the money.

I have nothing against Followill, but Coop is about to make people wonder how Followill ever had that gig in the first place.  Coop is a great basketball play-by-play guy.

True Dat, Mark is a great guy and has had success in that role, but Coop eats/sleeps/breathes that kind of gig.
