I agree. They need to pick a genre of Rock (classic, active, alternative, indie, or whatever), stick with it, and run with it! I guess we'll see what happens.. Not by listening of course, but by reading about it on here!!
Thye Bone has ALREADY betrayed listeners. The Bone started out with a braod playlist, and then, little by little, tightened it up to Generic Corporate Crappic Rock for Losers at Bars..... Well, once you have betryaed your core listener-ship, then you will likely NEVER be able to regain that respect EVER again. And, The Bone IS NOT trying to regain that respect. YOU DON'T FORGET WHEN SOMEONE DUMPS YOU. The Bone is a Two-Timin' Unfathful Cheat, when it comes to their music playlists. You can put whatever kind of 'spin' on what The Bone did, but the gist of it will ALWAYS BE that they SCREWED their Loyal Listeners. PERIOD. You hit the nail on the head, Rover!! So, shouldn't they blow up the station and start from scratch? That way, it would be a clean slate to work with... (and LOL at "losers at bars") HA HA!!

Once they changed from "rocks harder" to the "Most Burned of all Time format/ imitation KZPS", they lost everything, which wasnt much to start. They shoulda blown it up then when they decided to alienate their core. ........... OR they could have just turned off the transmitter after the initial 6 month newlywed period wore off, cuz it was really over back then in '03. Actually blowing it up at any point would be good. It's such a garbage pit.

Well, I wil say this: They put on a great BBQ at Sneaky Pete's last Saturday!
Gary's experimenting and I believe he's doing what he can as far as he can.
It's always about money, money, money. I remember the old Bone and the faithful very well. When Cumulus bought out Susquehanna I knew things would drop like a 500 pounder of an Iraqi safe house.

Anyone... anyone..? Bueller?? Come to think of it, I do like their playlist much better than just a few months ago. It's as if they lifted most of my playlist from Retro Radio 1360 (the 'Modern Classic Rock' concept I've pushed on this board forever) and started playing it, and coincidentally about 2 weeks after I started playing it. HOWEVER...my problem with The Bone has to do with imaging and their "perceived" legitimacy. No matter how much I like the music, or particular songs or song sets they may play, I still think back on Jeff K and the old Sucks-quehanna crew when I hear "The Bone" name, and that brings back a lot of angst for me. I think about how the station started off strong (not Literally) and degraded into Jeff's personal jukebox over time. The station was a laughingstock for WAY too long for me to ever take the "Bone" imaging seriously again. Even the imaging voice is the same as back then. Me, I'd chuck ALL the imaging AND name AND calls, reimage it in the style of Q-102 or The Zoo ("quiet" DJs with a little mystique, three+ in a row, get a new voice, get some familiar Q or Zoo jocks on board, etc.) I think they're on the right track with the music; it's just the stuff in between that's still unnerving to me. (And I'm still a little miffed of how they treated Channing...not once, but twice.) They might even ask Mitch Carr how Q-102 handled the Cowboys games back in the late 1970s...I think Q-102 was able to make the Cowboys an asset to them, instead of something you listened to "despite" what station was carrying them.

With all due respect, Mike, I disagree. It sounds as if you have a personal problem with Jeff K. If you'll remember correctly, Scott Strong was calling the shots there as PD. Do you recall the sweeper that proclaimed, "We fired the consultants"? That was b.s. As a matter of fact, Scott "tweaked" the playlist based on focus groups, half of whom were ZPS listeners. I was in his office the day the "tweak" went into effect. I even advised it was a wrong move, not that I am even close to an expert. You are far superior to me along those lines.
However, it is my honest opinion that Jeff K went well out of his way to keep that station afloat even during the transition from Susquehanna to Cume-less. Before Fish came in and cleaned house, Jennifer split for Atlanta and Scott bailed as well. As for Channing, I like and know her, but there were good reasons why she was canned and you would do well to know what they are because you do err. Ask Vinnie Paul for starters, mmmk?
Now I agree that your playlist and that of The Bone are similar and I give you props on it. One of the main drawbacks for The Bone is 50,000 watts. They cannot cover DFW like the big blasters.
I know Gary as well and I like the guy. I'm going to sit back and watch what, if anything, transpires. Digging The Bone out of its current rut will be a herculean task. Let's give Gary a chance and see what happens.

I know what you're saying, Cowboy. Corporate radio is all about the money, so with whatever format they use they'll play the songs people want to hear, i.e., generally what they're familiar with. An example with The Bone (or any classic rock station) is the played-out "Stairway To Heaven" classic. Granted, it's a great song but as for me, it's been played to the point that when I hear it, I go elsewhere on the proverbial "dial". Tweaking and/or experimenting would be tossing in a lesser known Zep tune, e.g., maybe "How Many More Times". When was the last time you heard that on the radio? How about not in the last 30 years?
PD's do have some leeway when constructing the playlist. Gary has with The Bone as Mr Shannon has pointed out as well. Gone are the days however when stations really "play what we want" as Jack likes to brag about. They are no more playing what the jocks (what few there are) want than in any other corporate setting.
