Katrina Song Banned?
« on: August 29, 2005, 09:13:50 PM »

First, my heart and prayers go out to everyone involved in the Hurricane Katrina disaster, and it's great to hear that it was not as strong as it was predicted to be.

With that said...

I have a serious question, not making a joke out of this horrible event by asking this, but given what happened to radio airplay following 9/11 (not to compare those two, of course) you know someone might be thinking it.

So I'll ask: Are there any radio stations that have banned - temporarily or otherwise - the song "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves?

Why?  Should every woman in America named Katrina change her name temporarily as it might offend someone with too much time on their hands?

I doubt it.  It's pretty much a dead song as it is.

No, no, no.  Banning this sort of thing is WAY over-thinking things.  You may avoid giving title & artist (God knows the song's been over-introed ad nauseum over the past 20 years anyway).

Banning songs- small thinking by small minds, just like after 9/11.

Sam Buca interesting fact...

Back in my FM days, I was dating a girl named katrina.  We broke up after 2.5 years...so as I a joke I asked the PD never to schedule katrina and the waves during my shift.  He was having issues with his wife named Wendy.  So when he scheduled it during my shift, I left him a bag from Wendy's in his door.  Teeheehee.

One day my daughter and I were watching the Disney Channel and in between shows there was this mini music video with two of Disney's stars.  They were two little blonde girls re doing that song.  I don't know their names, but they made an average song worse.

Coastal urban stations (Q-93, WYLD FM 98, Hot 104.5, 94.5 WJZD, V-104.9, 93BLX) probably won't be playing "Da Baddest B***h" by Trina anytime soon...well, not they should be playing anything by Trina...
