KZRC in Bay City
« on: October 19, 2008, 08:18:48 PM »

Can anyone pickup 92.5 FM KZRC "The Kat" in Houston? I am curious if their signal reaches there now that they are finally at full power down there. I was the PD and PM Drive Jock awhile back but they never pushed full power with the old transmitter they had...

Funny you ask that because my seek-scan locked on them this morning in Sugar Land.  But it found several Beaumont stations too.  I think the cooler and clearer weather had more to do with it than anything else.

I wanted to buy that place a few years ago.  No assets to speak of was the reason me & my wife did not pull the trigger.  The price was right and she was more for it than me.

I have no idea what the new owners have up their sleeve, but it'll be the "Hail Mary" guys like Roy Henderson and Roger Staubach never imagined if they pull it off with that frequency. I do not think Bay City is their goal.

Signal wise, for a Super-A it does well.  Processing wise if they had better stuff pushing IN to their OMNIA it would be better.  That may change with time.

I have not put an ear on it in over a year, and am still trying to forget my trips down there to see the place.   The FCC should do a better job inspecting installations like that as this place appeared to be made mostly of Duct Tape, Super Glue, Bailing Wire and Paper Clips.  There was a board or two and a few mics as I recall but not much more.  Witko can get his hands on more toys.  I bet he will.

I too was going to buy the place and I pulled out of the deal as there was wy too many problems with it. Yes it was cheap, but then again you get what you pay for. Their equipment sucked, and then there is the engineer, LOL, at least he claims to be one LOL

As of August 29, 2008 92.5 in Bay City is KKHA.

KZRC is now on 96.1 licensed to Bennington, OK.

I noticed they have gone from 92.5 "the Kat"- no rules just rock...... to..... 92.5 Happy fm. With an oldies format.

Also, in the stop-set I heard there were no paid spots, just PSA's.

The station has always had problems selling inventory and generating revenue. It is almost impossible to sell in that market with the reputation the station has in the community.
