How is the CHR war going?
« on: October 20, 2008, 03:54:44 PM »

Does anyone know how the CHR ratings and/or revenue battle between KKHH & KRBE is going?  I'm not really asking whether you like one station more than the other or what you hate about one station or the other.  Has KKHH been on the air long enough to accurately give an educated opinion on how it's currently doing or will do into the future or does it even have a long term future?  How are the ratings comparisons?  In my opinion and this is just an opinion it appears that KKHH is going less rhythmic and sounding a little more like KRBE.  Does this mean it's now targeting a little older listener?  Discuss...

Ratings not able to quote but I believe KKHH is doing well in the younger demos.  KKHH is a sharp sounding station with the formatics in place where KRBE is missing some formatics.  Ratings are not always a symbol of good ratings.  KKHH has taken a more Urban sound this could cost them 18/34.  KRBE seems more in line for the 18/34 that is good for them.  My guess KKHH will be a Brides Maid never a Bride.  She will not be wearing White though, she is  a  down right dirty lady on the field!

With all respect for you, Truthsayer, your post includes one of my favorite quotes this week:

"Ratings are not always a symbol of good ratings."

Yeah, it seems like they are going after different demos.  KHHH seems to be geared toward the 12+ crowd and KRBE is playing more and more recurrents and golds and sounds more like they are a competitor for KHMX.  I guess the Sam Malone/Roula and Ryan ties make that case along with the music.  I would say KBXX and KPTY are more of a competitor for KHHH.

The different flavors of CHR reminds me of when KILT-AM used to be all of the above:  H&H in the morning, kinda AC middays and then easing into Top 40 when the kids got out of school, and finally Captain Jack entertaining the Junior High kids at night.  Hey it worked.  But there were, of course, fewer choices back then.

Quality vs. quantity.  I'd prefer less stations, better quality, IMHO.
