Journal -10%
« on: October 24, 2008, 08:45:27 AM »

I just saw on Inside Radio that Journal will be reducing their workforce by 10% across the country. I hope all in Tulsa can avoid the axe. Angry

Cumulus did their thing yesterday.  My sister and several others got the boot in Fayetteville.

The article actually says that the cutbacks happened since the beginning of the year and more cuts could be coming.

What's left to cut?  Honestly KFAQ doesn't really have a news division.  They have about 5 people who split news reading duties throughout the day and weekend.  Their newscasts are down to about 1:30 in length.  I'm sure they replaced Weather Channel Weather with Fox 23 weather because it was cheaper.
I don't want to see anyone lose their job.  However, the "John McCain apologist" morning show and the "Chris Medlock shill for Republicans" afternoon show bring nothing to the table.  It's a real shame considering KRMG brings even less to the table when it comes to weekday hours dedicated to local programming outside of TU Basketball.

Would that be Dawn?  It's a pretty sad situation there.  It looks like several of my friends at the Cumulus cluster in Mid-MO got downsized, too.

Yeah.  I feel really bad for her.  She put up with a lot more than I probably would have.

That's horrible and completely undeserved. She put her heart and soul into that job, and she's got more talent in her little finger than the whole rest of the staff put together. If Cumulus didn't recognize that then those blind idiots don't deserve her. I hope she finds something else very soon.

I don't think she knows me as I believe I was out of Northwest Arkansas before she got there (I know I left before she got to Magic 107.9), but pass along my regards and best wishes.

I have to think Cumulus really doesn't know what it's doing.  They worked really hard to get her from Magic as I heard it, and they also got rid of some people in Topeka who they worked hard to get from WIBW.  It just doesn't make much sense to me.

Journal is in trouble everywhere.  They're newspaper people.  I would say they should have stuck with it but newspapers are slowly dying off with the buggy whip.  I wish them the best but they seem to have a slash to prosperity mentality, and now that times are bad, there is almost nothing left to slash.....but they will find a way.

"Slash to prosperity"...nice blast, Bob! Reminds me of something we 'Nam era hippies used to say...."fighting for peace...isn't that like [doing something horizontally] for virginity?

Ever considering getting back on the air? You need an outlet for that creativity.
