I miss the Moskowitz report -- a show I have heard exactly as many times as Conversations with Liz Sommars, and some others.  And I still enjoy these columns.  This one was well written, completely relevant to radio, appealed to a broad audience, and perfectly appropriate when considering the news of the week.  Good job, Bill.

...by doing an EAS piece and not interviewing the self-proclaimed EAS God (and DT's hero) - Entercom's Clay Frienwald.

He could have made that column MUCH more lively than that dry interview with Mark Allen!

(and hey - Liz Sommars is covering "Predators and Prayers" this weekend - sounds like a must-listen to me!)

Snore.... Talk about taking boring to new heights, this weeks column not only managed to put me to sleep in one paragraph it did so with a strange relate to the disasters taking place down South.

I think would rather sit and listen to the Emergency Broadcast Systems signal than sit through reading that entire column.

Now, wait a minute.  He did a fine job tying in the headlines with what radio's response is.  Katrina is huge news and he wrote about it in his column.  He made the EBS about as exciting as you can make it really.  Normally, I can't stand his columns (SNORE!), but this one wasn't a bad idea at all.

This was interesting:
Lizz Sommars' guests on "Conversations" at 6 a.m. Sunday on KISW-FM (99.9) and KBSG-FM (97.3) include Philip Carlo, author of "Predators and Prayers."

KISW carries this?  Sort of an odd placement don't you think?

Odd, but probably necessary. Every radio station has to fulfill some public service requirements. Shoving it to 6 AM isn't my definition of public service, but that's another matter.

This "public service" tradition is a tired joke. Someone needs to wake up grandpa at ye old OLD OLD FCC over in DC and tell them to revise all the pre 1930s rules still in effect. Damn, this industry is tedious!

I think the FCC should revise that.  It's not doing anyone a public service when they're shoved into 6am Sunday slots.  Plus, when you tune into a Rock/Talk/Sports station, you don't want to hear anything other than the format.
Also, what kind of public service thing is it?  Is it political interviews?

You are not his audience.  Read a trade mag if you want something that appeals to your radio pro sensibilities.  Bill V's columns are for the general public, those without your expertise.  Don't read'em if ya don't like'em.  Sheesh!
