I can't defend radio because this trend began before the market crash. But ...

LOTS of industries are feeling the pain. Auto dealers are going for their wrists. Seattle Times lays off a bunch - says more coming in '09. Dell requests employees take 5 days unpaid vacation.

It's a big, wide-spread hurt.

I might be wrong but doesn't Bob Rivers pay his staff out of his own deal? You have to know most of the 8 ain't making very big bank.

I'm hearing another half-dozen or so were pink-slipped at 1000 Dexter this week.

Think good thoughts for those on the beach and if you're still employed be thankful it wasn't you who got the boot just before Christmas.

Any word on who?

It sucks getting fired, but two weeks before Christmas is really rough.

But, there's no good time to let people go, is there?

I had heard about two or three weeks ago they were not done with CBS layoffs in Seattle.  I hope this round means they ARE.

including Steve Slaton, for God's sake.
What the hell are they THINKING (or are they?) at CBS?

A once great chain of stations continues to cut legends in every market.  That's truly a sign they have lost the 10,000 foot perspective and are totally in panic mode.

If that's the case, they must have fired their web person as well because Steve is still on the KZOK site. Although alot of these people are so incompetent that it probably slipped their mind to take someone of the website after firing them. Obviously this is a cost cutting effort and they will probably just have 1 of the 7 members of Bob Rivers show voicetrack afternoons.

WTF??  Slaton?  I can't believe it.  I always felt KZOK was different.  Hell their weekend/holiday DJs are better than most talent on other stations.   Angry

Say it isn't so!!  Steve's a really good guy.  At least 35 full time years in Seattle, I doubt anyone current has been on air here longer, not even Bill Yend.

This is a dark day in Seattle radio.

I just sent separate emails to Steve and Curelop.  Not that it will make much of a difference if true.  Damn, I'm pissed.
