WNOW (FM)
« on: November 27, 2008, 09:19:20 AM »

Has WNOW-FM 105.3 moved to the WBAV tower yet?  Any idea when the move is to be completed?  I am still getting it well below Greenville/Spartanburg...but then again I get 'BAV well, so I can't tell.  Can anyone fill in?  Thanks!

WNOW-FM is not going to move to the WBAV tower near Kings mountain.  Actually, I think the plan was to to move to another  tower adjacent to the WBAV tower on Crowder's Mountain.  The Gaston County Commission or their Zoning board turned that plan down for environmental reasons.  WNOW then applied to the FCC to move their transmitter to one of the existing tall towers in north Gaston.  Apparently such a move would leave the signal too weak to deliver a city grade signal to Gaffney, so WNOW also asked that the COL be changed to Bessemer City.  The FCC granted both requests, but I don't believe WNOW has moved to its new location yet.  Davidson just sold off a number of it's AM stations, so they should have the capital to move forward with the new facility.

Pretty sure the antenna for WNOW-FM will be below the 1500' platform on the WBTV/WLNK tower...

Thanks for the info guys!  Their signal now is a monster, at least down my way given the distance from the site.

The construction permit expires on May 3,2009. Are they moving before then?

They are moving to the CH-3 tower! Should be up there within 2 weeks.

WNOW did NOT even show in the latest ratings...at least I didn't see them. What's up with that?

You sure?  Thank God.  Maybe my radio will finally stop "scanning" there in Piedmont.

Z-100 is correct.  Upon checking the FCC database, I see where they filed a modification to their CP and will indeed be moving to the WBTV-TV tower north of Gastonia.

Yeah, God forbid you might be exposed to something on the radio (if even for a few seconds) you are not familiar with.  You certainly wouldn't want to be exposed to something new....
