Retro Television Network
« on: February 03, 2009, 04:46:27 PM »

I must say it is nice to see their programming.  In a way, it is what TV Land was when it first started.  Hopefully they will not add crap later on like TV Land did and stick with only classic TV shows.  It is hard to find as one of the few ways to see it is through over the air digital broadcasting (it's an additional digital channel of an established TV station).  It is carried on some cable systems but usually only on the upper digital tiers which means if you have expanded basic cable, you can't get it unless you upgrade.  I haven't heard that Dish or DirectTV are carrying the Network feed.

The unique thing for this network is each market can choose what they want to carry.  In Atlanta, WSB 2.2 dropped RTN's late night live show, Unreliable Sources, and carries The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.

If you are fortunate enough to get this network in your TV market and haven't checked it out, you are missing out.

There is a page to let you know which cities are receiving RTN.

I'm lucky enough to live in San Francisco, where this network does have a local affiliate. They're running some darn good television, some nights I put it on at 8 at night and never change the channel till I go to bed.

RTN for me is on Channel 7-2 KAIL-DT Fresno. The SF Bay Area Market states that KRON-DT.3 is supposed to have the station on, but instead, it does not. In Sacto, it seems that KQCA 58.2 (RF 46.2) will likely carry the feed.

I can tell you that RTN is a truly welcomed addition to the Southern New England airwaves.  It is being sent via WJAR 10.2, which previously was an outlet for NBC's Weather Plus.  I'm really enjoying McHale's Navy, It Takes A Thief and a certain show that I have not seen in over 40 years, Batchelor Father starring John Forsythe, the late Sammee Tong and one of own locals Noreen Corcoran from Quincy, Massachusetts.  Hard to believe that this was the same John Forsythe who went on to bigger and better things as "Blake Carrington" on the nighttime soap "Dynasty".  I believe that RTN is also available on WCDC 19.2 (RF Channel 36) in Adams, MA (a full-time satellite of WTEN in Albany, NY).  Kudos to WJAR for bringing some great programming from Retro Televison Network.  It's a big favorite on my digital set!

I would like for RTN to make deals with various syndicators for shows that are not currently all over the dial. I'd like to see "The Real McCoys", "Mister Ed", "M Squad" [it's a Universal-Revue show, why not add that?], as well as other classics that aren't seen anywhere.

Didn't RTN at one time have an affiliate in Denver?

Last year I was checking out their list of affilates and I could have sworn they had an affiliate there. However I am pretty sure it wasn't on any subchannel of any of the major stations there but rather I believe it was on some LPTV channel.

Today I went back to the RTN site and saw where as of today, no affilates not only in Denver but anywhere in Colorado for that matter.

Wonder what happened or if I was "seeing things" LOL

There was indeed an RTN affiliate in Denver, KDEV-LP channel 39. However, that station is owned by Equity;  when the nasty breakup occurred between Equity and RTN in January, Luken (the new owner of RTN) disaffiliated all RTN affiliates owned by Equity. Now known as KQDK-LP, it is unknown what that station is carrying now.

I remember two shows produced by RTN itself.  What were they called?  I could only see them for about a month before they disappeared (WHBF-DT became "RTN4" during the holidays in 2008).  Will they ever return?

We don't have this in Chicago, but we do have Me-TV which shows similar shows.
